My 2 cents. Given quality of OEM wires would never ever buy anything but them. Replaced after 22 years, probably would last at least 5 more.

My most recent example of how robust the Yazaki wire sets are happened in October.

I pulled these off of a 1983 FJ40 I was working on.

The date on it says "1983". Damn, that's only 8 years after I was born. That wire set was 32 years old when it gave up the ghost. Imagine everything in the world that has happened in 32 years and then think that the wire set survived all of that time period as well.

Impressive in my opinion.

1FZ-FE wire sets are expensive. I'm not going to discount that. But the fact that the ones I am usually pulling off are the factory originals is again testament to the Yazaki wire sets. And when seen against a 20+ year ownership say, the Yazaki set has a phenomenal ROI.

Wire has come a long way since that time and with the introduction of spiral wire has improved spark performance. Sold after market wire over here for 15 years and the hardest ones to convince are the old school mechanics. Its like chalk and cheese. Do some research The brand I sold was Top Gun. Spiral wire is used in most of the newer cars prior to the introduction of coil overs. No more leads required. And just because they have been on e vehicle for 20 years doesn't mean they were working correctly OHMS test is the starting point sometimes around 16000 ohms per metre. Spiral wire would be half that. Just food for thought. cheers Brian

Hmmmm this is a tough decision... Maybe I should just bite the bullet and buy this aftermarket set and see what happends. If it takes a s*** then I lost $40.

Oh absolutely. Not saying anything about the advances in technology since that time period which obviously make these quite antiquated. I do agree.

I'm merely impressed that something allowed a vehicle to run for so long. It's just cool in a way because most everything today is a throw-away item and everyone thinks this way.

I just bought some b and b wires off amazon, hoping they will last. They look good :flipoff2:

I have to agree with Beno, spend the extra money and go with a factory set of wires. I just helped a fellow Mud member change out his old set on his 97. The factory replacement set comes with all the plastic wire guides already installed, each wire is numbered for it's position on the Dist cap. Plus all the spark plug wire boots are all clocked to fit on the Dist. cap locking lugs perfectly. I don't think your going to find that level of attention to detail in an aftermarket set. YMMV

^^^ This...

My rig's PO put on set of Belden Edge wires (NAPA, I think) and the boots are clocked in the wrong position. This makes some of the wire runs tighter than a bango string and unable to fit in the plastic guide tray on top of the valve cover. The coil wire is also too short IMO and is tighter than I'm comfortable with.

The truck runs great, but it is little fit and finish things like wire dressing that make a set of wires last 100K. Drives me crazy :bang:. I'm not always sold on OEM but at least get something that fits right.

I've been using the NGk blue wires for a couple years now.
It's honestly the only brand of use other than the OEM. I'm a big fan of their plugs as well. I just bought a set of the blues for my 87 4Runner as well.

Great price, they look great, and they seem to be holding up really well.

I have NGK's and have had no problems. Just remember that the #3 wire is longer than the #4 wire when you install your new set.

We got OEM and until you hold a new set of OEM plug wires, you won't believe us when we say they're of unbelievable high quality. Worth every penny.

I've seen many 20 year old sets of wires on Toyotas. Can't beat the quality of the factory wires for sure. That being said if I was to go aftermarket with some wires NGK is the brand I would be the most confident in. They do make the OE spark plugs for Toyota.
