my sunroof is rattling around like crazy. It's actually very sad as i like to leave the cloth part slide back so i can let the sunlight warm the truck, but as i ride down the road the thing rattles and squeaks sooooo bad it sounds like a plastic old ford. It really does sound like a cheap ford interior because of that sunroof rattling around above my head.

So looking at the FSM, it pretty much shows dropping the headliner to adjust it. Is there any way to adjust this thing without dropping the headliner? I don't have a garage, so dropping the headliner would have to be a one sunny day activity that i would have to start and finish.

x 3 and with pictures.

Mine squeaks like crazy and I thought it was a dash squeak. I found if you slide it open and slide it closed the squeak goes away. If I use the button that pops it up and close it, it squeaks. Hope this helps

what exactly is loose? have you grabbed the different parts and seen witch one makes the noise? depending on what is loose will determine how much you have to take apart.

basically there is a big fiber/plastic pan up there bolted to the roof, if that is loose to the roof then the headliner has to come down, there ia a track and drive assembly with many parts that moves the run roof around above the pan, some of this is accessible from the open sunroof above, then the sun roof itslef bolts to the track,

so what is loose? I have pics of soem of the parts but andhow to get to them but you need to figur eout what is loose

There si also a wire bundle that gets loose and makes noise right above the drivers head,

raven, i have pushed, pulled, mashed, pryed about everything on the sunroof i can and it doens't make a difference. I have tried to open it and close it back and it works about 1% of the time but it does always come back.

It really sounds like the plastic around the glass is about to break loose.

On mine it seems that the glass doesn't fully go into position. When the glass is closed I can, by pushing up, move the glass up about 1/4 inch further. I've looked and can't quite figure out how it's all adjusted.

From the FSM it looks like the plastic surround bits need to come off for adjustment? Is there an easy way to remove these without breaking them? They are the actual cause of the noise, however the movement causes the plastic to squeak.

The way I've removed mine is buy sliding a 5" wide drywall mud knife in between the plastic and glass towards the rear, then front corners. IIRC there is one clip attachment in those two areas. It makes a big POP when comes free, which about gave me a heart attack cause I thought I broke the glass. It works, but if there is a better way someone please jump in.

My rattle is definitely the plastic trim and the glass clapping together. I may remove it and see if filling the plastic edges down a bit will fix it.

I almost started a thread on this too. Mine has developed a metal on metal rattle, sounds like it is on the DS rail right above my head and to the rear about 6 inches.

If I slide the shade open it seems to hold tight what ever little metal bracket that is loose. But I would love to tighten it once and for all.

hmm maybe remove the 2 plastic trim piecwa arround the glass and see if it goes away? that would be the easiest fix, if one of the push clips was bent or not holding well the trim would rattle,

Like R2 says for some reason that trim is very tight coming out.

the up/down adjustment is shims between the sun roof and its carriage where they bolt, kind of like fender on a 70's GM product, unless the bolts are loose I do not see how that would help you with play, maybe something worn in the lifting part of the carriage?

you can pull the sunroof itself fairly quickly, that should lead you to you problem,

I have officially joined the sunroof rattle club and am dragging up this post.

Has anyone came up with a solution yet?

Toy350,

May I also join the club ? I have to keep my sunroof fully closed because the rattle is so irritating even my most polite friends complain.

Wild. Mine is silent when open. It's when it's closed it tick tick click clicks

Ditto Shotts

Rattle when closed, when tilted up and when just slightly open. When open halfway or further no rattle.

Mine rattles unless I constantly push the cover forward every few miles.
Someone on here must be the sunroof guru. Help

Wow atleast you guys can open and close yours, i am still figiting with mine to open it, i hear a click when i press the button to open and nothing happens, when i try to tilt open it moves like 1 inch and thats it, and i imagine it leaks because the previous owners placed silicon sealant on the front passenger corner of the sunrood window and body of the car. Is there a way to open it manually to get some kind of look to fix it? Or should i break it out and spot weld a panel of steel up there and rid the sunroof?

Gonna revive this thread as the last post is exactly the problem I have also. I can tilt it up and down now that I have lubed it, but it won't slide. I actually had to force it up as I pressed on the up button, then sprayed silicon/teflon spray all over the mechanisms. Now it works pretty good, at least under its own power consistently. But I also just hear the relay click when I push the open button. And mine leaks too in the front passenger corner, so I need to get it open to check the infamous drains. Is there a way to manually open this? Or does anyone know what I should check to get it to open with the button? Thanks.
