My '62 LC (1989) would not start yesturday after having been sitting all day facing uphill, in near freezing weather, with visable moisture blowing off snow.. Had only started it in a.m. to move it several feet. Have had it 2 months and it has always started immediately. Turned over just fine, with absolutely no firing going on (no spark) Tried ether- again no firing. I only know that the previous owner had had some trouble with starting when it was wet. Tried heat gun for an hour with blankets over hood. Stared up and it is fine this a.m.. Believe there is moisture affecting something electrical, but do not know where to look. Previous owner has not returned call to ask what has already been done, (and obviously not worked!) Any suggestions?

and don't forget the distributor cap o-ring when replacing the cap.

Is it a really steep hill? Maybe the primary jet is dry in the float bowl. Far fetched but worth a check. Try to start it and then pull a plug or two to see if there is not enough fuel or if there is no spark. If it's wet, then there's no spark. If it's dry, then there's no fuel. Try that.

I just went through this problem myself. Went from being -4 to about 40 degrees in 2 days time. There was a lot of condensation and water in the garage from the melting snow. One morning my 60 would not start at all. I pulled the cap to look and there was a bit of moisture. WD it out and wiped it down but still no start. Pulled my #1 plug to check spark and there was barely any.

Anyway, I finally checked the coil wire. When I pulled it out of the cap, it came apart (left the metal part in the cap). After pulling the piece out of the cap, I find the coil terminal is completly corroded, basically no metal to metal contact, thus no spark. I cleaned it out with emery cloth and put the coil wire back together, and it fired right up.

I ordered all new parts from CDan, hopefully they'll be here this next week.

Moral of the story: check all your ignition parts and use dielectric grease on all the wires. Moisture is the enemy.
