A few months ago my neighbour here in Vic was selling a mint 87 60 (gas) and couldn't find a buyer. He finally let it go for about $3000 (a steal considering the shape and low miles).

My HJ60 has been for sale for a few months now, and I've only had a few nibbles. Have diesel prices driven buyers away, or am I asking too much ($7000 for a pretty solid unit, lots of extras, solid frame etc.)?

Dang...can't bring over my dream Cruiser until this one sells!

they are big vehicles....which means big $$$ in gas and right now....gas just aint cheap. for the most part my FJ40 stays parked....except for wheeling and the odd time when i just gotta drive it. insurance seems a waste on it but with gas almost 1.40 a liter...thats just kinda the way it goes

I know I stopped looking for a diesel cruiser. I have been looking for the right unit for a couple of years now off and on and just can't justify the price difference between gas and diesel now.

I know cruisers are way better than other SUV's but alot of people only see a 20 year old vehicle for 7 grand and go holy crap!

I think the JDM's coming in are driving prices down for the older 'domestic' market diesels. I feel your pain as I own a couple of 2H's, one in particular which is damn near mint but I don't think it would fetch what I think it is worth.

Timing is everything. When I bought this rig it seemed everyone was on the bio-diesel bandwagon. Everywhere I drove people would come up to me and comment on the truck, how they go forever, are classics, etc. Once in the last year I even turned down an offer of $9300!! Live and learn.

Oh well, I still like the old HJ, and if I don't sell it will just have to keep wheeling it...assuming I can afford the diesel.

Don't take it personal, it's not only cruisers, I've seen many, many trucks for sale on front yards lately, and I mean, full size 4WD pickups less than 10 years old go for $3,000 and even less. And what is scarier even, there are many, many tractors for sale as well. Want to go into trucking for cheap? ;)

At this juncture, if I find a cheap gasser econobox I'll be buying, at $1.55 a litre and $150 a week it's just too much for me and the increase since last year has basically eaten all I could save.

The trend now is people selling their houses to move closer to work in the city, that's how much the increase in fuel costs is hurting.

It's so bad now I'm basically coasting downhill, put it in neutral at every stoplight and rarely exceed 80 kph even on the highway. If people don't like the obstruction, so be it. It's my way of protesting the high prices. I figure if enough people do it and REALLY slow down traffic, politicians will notice and do something REASONABLE about it: REDUCE taxes, or put it where it should actually go: into our ROADS!!!

Your first line says it all: no one wants an FJ60 because the fuel economy is so incredibly poor.

Canadian model HJ60 prices are being driven down by the JDM market. The local trucks are just so rusty, it's not worth even looking at them (with very, very few exceptions).

Consider that a nearly mint JDM HJ61 with a full load of options gets close to 30 mpg in mixed city/highway driving, and you can understand where things are at. Over the last few years, the market has really been turning over - there's lots and lots of interest in the BJ74s, the HJ61s, and if you can find one, HZJ73s and HZJ77s.
