I recently replaced the alternator in my hj75 troopy 2h motor. I mistakenly fitted the blank bolt supplied with the new alternator when connecting the oil supply hose. After a short amount of driving the brake warning light came on and I had no vacuum left. I realised my mistake, removed the blank bolt and fitted the hollow bolt but oil is no longer being pumped. I have removed this hose from the side of the block and no oil whatsoever is being pumped out. I can blow compressed air into the hole and it comes out of the oil filler. I can suck oil through the hole. Has anyone come across this before? Does anyone know how to rectify this problem?

how is your engine oil pressure .?

That's the stupid thing, I've tested the oil pressure with an external gauge and there is plenty. It's just not getting to that outlet. I would have thought that it just taps into an oil gallery and therefore should have gallery pressure but it must have a separate feed. I just can't figure out where from or what could go wrong.

could it be that you ran out of oil as the supply was disconnected.

The vacuum pump definitely ran out of oil and has unfortunately been ruined. I've replaced it with the old one that was working fine but there is still no oil being pumped from the block.

You check your oil pressure at the oil pressure sender port and was good pressure.. it sounds weird coz both ports are connected.

After a lot of searching I found someone who had come across this issue. The cause of the problem is worn camshaft bearings. When I blocked off the supply it caused a build up of pressure and cleared a heap of carbon and/or sludge from around the bearings. After this, oil pushes past the bearings meaning that there is not enough pressure to push through and supply the vac pump. One solution is obviously to replace the cam bearings. Another is to run a hose from the oil pressure sender to the alternator.
