so I recently picked up my first 100 series, a 2000 LX.

It only came with a single key and no fob. I ordered up a programmable key with uncut blade and plan to program it in the next couple days

Now my question: When doing a search About key fob replacement I found a lot of talk about an immobilizer function with the ingnition. Obviously mine either doesn't have, its disabled or been removed. Will programming an new fob give me issues? I'd like keyless entry!

If I understand things correctly, my truck really shouldn't be starting without a working fob, right???

And so far it's started fine minus the starter crapping out on me in the first 400 miles! If only replacing it was as easy as on my fj60!

Post a picture of your key. There are keys without keyless entry buttons that do have transponders in them for the immobilizer. If it is really a transponderless key you are using, then you likely have a transponder key zip-tied to the ignition cylinder. I've never heard of a US truck without an immobilizer.

This is the current and only key

KL (Keyline) looks to be a supplier of key cloning machines for locksmiths. I think you've got a transponder key there. If it's a clone of a master, you should be able to program your new key. If it's not, I'd look at aftermarket systems for keyless entry.

We have one of those keys (in a Toyota variant) for my son's TLC. As suggested above, ours is a "cloned" transponder key (from an Ace Hardware).

Unless one of the PO got "creative", your immobilizer is still probably active.

Maybe you got lucky, and your key a clone of a "master" key.

You may want to read the following thread on how to identify "master" vs "valet":

As JLB mentioned, it's a clone key. I also have one from my Ace Hardware after the key-cutter guy screwed up my blanks.
