I went to Calgary this weekend. While I was there I stopped by to get a key cut for my 80 series. I thought I would take a 100 out for a drive. Went to two large dealers, neither had a 100 series in Stock.

One dealer had a new Porsche Carrera, newer Corvette, and lots of new Lexus sports coupes (and lots more other exotics). When I asked about 100's I was told they did not stock them. I was told no dealers in Calgary had them. What they heck? They have a $150,000 Porsche but no 100 series? They have 50 or more Sequoia's and not a single 100? How does toyota expect to sell the 100 if the dealers will not bring it in? People drop almost the same money on a VW Tourage. I saw more H2's and H3 then I could count. Calgary has money and a 100 cruiser would fit right in. It just seems dumb they did not to have a single one.

I don't want to buy one. I just got my diesel HDJ81 from Japan and absolutely love it. I just wanted to drive one because I am a cruiser enthusiast. Anyone out there have a 100 I can drive? Just want to take it for a spin.

Cheers,
Nick

You might have to go to a Lexus dealer to see a 100 series.

The last Land Cruiser that Toyota brought to Canada was in 1988.

In 1996 they started sending the Lexus version. You should have had a go at one of the new LX470s. Hydraulic suspension I believe.

Okay, that makes sense. Next time I will ask to take a 470 out.
Allthough I don't know if they will let me.
Because I am only 23 might give me the "go away kid" attitude.

Cheers,
Nick

Does anyone know why? They sell Land Cruisers all over the world. Even in very populated countries in Western Europe. Why not Canada?

This is a question that keeps bugging me. I've sent Toyota an email, but got a very vague response along the lines "You can buy a Sequoia".

I think they did this because Ford, GM and Chrysler where complaining about lack of sales. So the government started to limit the number of models that could be brought in. So Toyota started to bring in the cruiser under the Lexus badge to make room for other models.

This is what I am heard anyway. I don't know how true it is.
I had forgotten why Toyota stopped. I should of know better when I asked to test drive a 100 series.

I doubt it. Thanks to the oil boom, there's lots of 23 year olds running around in $50,000+ rigs. I'd be jealous if they didn't hang out the window to give me the thumbs up driving a restomod Land Cruiser.

"for everything else there's American Express"

Well I expect the 2007/2008 LC major change to be on sequoia running gear unfortunately!

Actually I think it has more to do with branding. In Canada, Toyota means practical and reliable - not luxurious. Lexus carrying the luxurious tag. With the price on 100's being what it is, Toyota's thinking Canadians will spend that on a Lexus but not a Toyota. That's my take on it, anyway.

come down to Vancouver (BC not Oregon -_-) i'll let you drive mine ;p

So if in 1989 Toyota dropped the LC in Canada what replaced it until 1996 when the LX450 came out? In the US Lexus didn't start until 1990 and the first SUV in 1996, the LX450. So did Canada not offer any LC based vehicles from 89 to 96 or did Canada get Lexus SUVs before the US?

AFAIK there was nothing in that period, except for imports. I also think that the LX450 did not arrive here till 1997. I've never seen an original Canadian '96 LX450.

It was the dark ages in Canada for sure. Nobody was importing JDMs yet either. I can't believe all those LX450s were only one model year but you're probably right.
