That looks concerning to say the least… How many miles did he have on them? I did a quick search in the 100 series section and on google with the key words nitro gear ball joint failure and the only thing that comes up are for SPC products. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction if possible?

Yea SPC seemed to have a bad run for a while too. I’m running the redesigned ones and hoping the ball joint issue is resolved.

My brother in law had less than 30k miles on his nitros.

Per the last thread linked above, seems there was a bad batch of nitro ucas at some point. Could be similar case to SPCs where they were redesigned. Unless the set that failed was confirmed to be outside of the bad batch run @tbisaacs ?

I have been using nitro gear UCAs for 6 six years, been Happy with them. My initial set had the recalled UBJs…. So i Picked up a second set when they were on sale, cheap but no where near the deal you scored, and they had newer UBJs that are good to go. Here’s some info on them and the recall. You can check the serial number on the ball joint to confirm if it’s in the recalled series.

My Nitro UCA's have also been fine... except moisture intrusion. Could be water crossings or snow runs. Cap has a rubber o-ring so probably coming in from the bottom. Maybe coat the cup with some grease. The balljoints are 2nd Tundra ball joints. Unfortunately, Toyota doesn't sell them, so you have to choose aftermarket.
