Must resist........too many good cruisers out there...

interesting, did all later 45's get the 3 wiper setup? I thought that was only on LX 40's.

Only the LX short wheelbase models came with 3 wipers ex factory. If that setup is on a LWB, someone has put it on themselves.

The first one you linked http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/nort...ta-land-cruiser-ute-fj40-fj45-hj45/1022680143 is not a 1960. Looks to be a 66 or 67. Which probably wouldn't have been one of the first cruisers in Australia. The engine looks like a 72 or 73 which means it not original to the cruiser. :meh:

Thanks for posting. I like this one . . . a lot.

Could someone help educate me please? Is $5500 AUS for an '84 F-engine "troopy" in that condition considered a "good" price in Australia, about "average," "overpriced?" And would anyone know, roughly speaking, what the current going rate is to ship a troopy from Australia to Long Beach, CA?

I guess I thought troop carriers (I realize it's not a diesel, but still) were just a ton more money than this so I never put much hope in ever getting one. But this has got my interest up, now!

The price is about average for a rust free troopy in Australia but there going up as they get harder to find in this condition. The hj45 traybacks are used on farmers properties as work horses but troopies where mainly brought by people for touring so most troopies lived around the Australian coastline and have rust. This is located on the mid north coast near me so Brisbane would the closest port for shipping.

Love the Austrailian Cruiser porn ! hj45, fj45, troopies.
Here in Canada we see a lot of rust. Usually summer time we see more 40's 42... on the road but they are getting extinct here. A rare viewing of one on the road is a head turner !
Thanks for posting !
Cheers

PS. Thought i'd include a pic of mine. fj45 b motor with bench seats.

!

FWIW I spent a bit over $3K USD to ship one from Brisbane to Long Beach about six or seven years ago. Made all the RORO arrangements myself from the US and had cooperation from the previous owner in AUS for help in getting it to the port of Brisbane.

That makes sense. Thank you for that. I am reading that shipping is just over the $4K mark now, although I haven't priced out any specific routes yet. Would love to pull this off one day. We'll see!

I had a true sense of accomplishment when I got my CA title and tags. Doing the whole import process on my own was very rewarding.

Go for it!

Check out AUStoUSA, as they often have space in their containers heading to the US, and have imported a bunch of OZ Cruisers. Having someone who has done this before and has a good reputation is a big benefit.

Ozcruiser, you're killing me! (Jes kidding, keep 'em coming.)

Seriously, though, I know you aren't a "gumtree.com" administrator (or, are you?) but I wonder if you could help me understand something? Ever since I noticed this thread I have been watching the gumtree site everyday. I have e-mailed three different troopy owners using the site e-mail system (no responses yet.) I notice that each of the ads have a phone number, but that the last four digits are masked, and when I click "show number," nothing happens. I even registered as member of the site hoping I could gain access to the phone numbers and start giving folks a call but that didn't work either. I still can't get the "show number" button to, well, show me the number!

Any ideas? Is this the case for you too? Can you see the phone numbers? Maybe the numbers are only blocked for non-Australia I.P. addresses? Maybe it's something to do with my computer? I don't know.

Thanks to you I have discovered a great resource for locating a troopy. Just gotta figure out how to make it work!
