Quick introduction post. I'm looking to buy a FZJ80 (with lockers of course) and modify it for use on Colorado and Moab trails in order to carry my family of six on wheeling excursions. I've been lurking and searching for a few days to get the general info. I'm coming out of an 8" lifted Jeep Cherokee (XJ) as my family is growing past XJ capacity.

I won't be going quite so hardcore with the FZJ80 as I want something that is truly dual purpose. Probably 2" OME lift with 305 MTR's (or maybe 34x12.5x16 trxus and 3" OME) and some tube bumpers plus sliders and lower gears (I'm in Colorado, and being undergeared at this elevation with a heavy rig is pretty much unacceptable). My XJ was always the best with the 2" OME as a dual purpose rig, and I spent $20K ruining it after that.

The FZJ80 looks pretty straight forward in terms of tires and lift. I'd like to see some sort of solution for disconnecting swaybars...perhaps a completely custom setup for lifted rigs that inverts the mounting points so the end links can be quick disconnected. Wouldn't everybody buy this setup if it was properly tuned for road use?

That's all for now. Keep me in mind if you are in my neck of the woods and have an FZJ80 you want to sell. If you want to downsize to an XJ that runs vibration free in full time 4wd with heavy duty (for an XJ) high pinion axles front and rear, but can also be run in 2wd (rear wheel drive), drop me a line. It's definitely offroad biased, but I daily drive the pig and it has pretty damn good manners most of the time and has all the goods, including an internal roll cage and rear bucket seats for pre-teen (up to about 80 lbs) sized kids with 5 point harnesses.

Check Christo's web site (Sleeoffroad.com) They're in Golden and specialize in working on and outfitting Toyotas and the 80 Series in particular. Christo, Robbie, and Ben are very familiar with these trucks and can give you a lot of upgrade ideas. There are a lot of commercial lift options ranging from OME HD springs with no lift to custom Slee springs with 6" lift. Tyres go from stock to 33's to 37's on 17 inch rims. It just takes money.

I don't think you need to worry about disconnecting the factory sway bars if you're running the OME 50mm lift and 33-35" tyres. The vehicle will perform very well on and off road with the factory sway bars until you're running the taller lifts.
