Newbie Question

I have a 2000 Landcruiser and have two buttons that I am confused about. The first is a button on the console that says 2nd. This button is adjacent to th PWR button. The second is to the left of the AC panel and looks like two axles with wheels and a bar connecting the axles with an X in the middle. The front wheels are turned to the right.

Any help would be appreciated.

First, you need an owner's manual - it will answer many of your questions (including these).

1) The 2nd bottom makes the transmission start in 2nd gear at stops - primarily for icy/snowy conditions
2) This button locks the center differential - if you don't know what this means, you probably shouldn't use it. You might try doing a search, there's quite a bit of information on how/when to use this feature.

Welcome to the forum.
You may want to say Hi and Introduce yourself, eh!
Get an owner's manual sometimes, will help you not to make big mistakes (as in towing, pushing the CDL button, etc)

The 2nd button is to start in second gear (less chance of slippage)
The other one is the center diff lock switch CDL.

Plenty on both in the archives, do a search...

well, the CDL is a somewhat tricky affair, at least in terms of when to use it or not and there can be costly damage if you use it wrong, so no, you need to read a bit about it
