Newbie painting with question

I've been stripping the body on my FJ40 and repairing the problem areas on the body. I'm thinking that I want to use PPK 40 primer on the bare metal. After a visit to a couple of local paint shops I was looking at the Limco 1 part paints in Charcoal metalic. Have any of you had any experience with spraying this paint? How does it hold up? I've not sprayed a vehicle before but have a buddy who restores Harley's and is willing to help. Any other sugestions?
Thanks

When you say one part paint, do you mean "single stage" paint? As in no clear is applied over the base color?
If so, I would not recommend it. Single stage paints lack heavily in the gloss durability department. I would recommend using a modern basecoat clearcoat urethane, much more durable.

On 40's the paint was meant to be a low lustre paint. This was to help hide and repair scratches. Lots of guys repaint with two stage, but that's not factory.

I don't know about the primer issue but the single stage is OK.

Yes I ment single stage paint. Showing my ignorance. After talking with some more folks and reading on the net I've about talked myself out of it and going with a two stage paint. I did spray some primer this past weekend on the bib, hood and bezel. Still need to block sand and hit with another coat after some minor glazing. I'm having a hard time deciding color at this point. To many opinions..........
