I am trying to replace the clutch in my new 87 FJ60. I am attempting this before i go back to school (tomorrow) as an emergency last minute repair. I don't have a book (cos i'm dumb) and i'm having a hard time working out how to remove the shifters. I've mostly worked on Rx7's and front wheel drive cars until now and i'm kinda lost, how do they come out? Any help here would be great!

I read that i'm also going to have fun alligning the trans back on the motor, so i can't wait for that.

This is my first post too so Hello :) I've had the car a week and i love it so far
Thanks
Dave

Yep push and twist. Now lets see, anti clockwise for removal? They can be really stiff sometimes. Two pairs of hands is easier

Do your self a favour and download a manual here

Welcome Noob!!!!

The transfer shifter just unbolts underneath. While as stated above, the trans shifter has a cap under the boot that must be depressed and turned CCW. I use 2 flat screwdrivers and push and turn. Not too bad.

In order to ensure you have an easy trans install/lineup make sure you use the clutch disc alignment tool (blue plastic splined input shaft simulation thingy) that should come with the kit. If it doesn't then line it up as best you can and look at the edge of the disc all the way around the pressure plate and ensure it's equal to make sure it's centered before you tighten the press plate bolts. If it's not centered you'll fight with it for a long time.

Good luck and don't be late for school :D .
