Hi everyone,

I am new to this site and am delighted to have joined.

I was wondering if anyone has a electronic copy of a workshop or service manual for my vehicle, its a 1998 LX Land Cruiser HZJ77. I need to repair the electronic locking hubs and although i have some diagrams i thought a comprehensive manual might be useful.

Thank you for an interesting forum.

It's not the hubs that die, it's improper installation of the hubs and subsequent destruction of the hub brushes that wipe out most of these units.

I have seen the slip rings fail as well.

First thing to do is check the brushes. If they are broken off, then that is likely your problem.

If the brushes are okay, then get out your test light and have someone cycle the switch on the dash as you probe the wires that go into the backing plate and then the slip rings that are on the spindle.

Remember to use a small wire inserted into the hole provided to hold the brushes back before you install the hubs !!

Thanks John for the reminder. I am sure there was a problem before i got the vehicle and we will now fix them and install them correctly.

Will post the results.

the electrical ones scare me a bit. Have you thought about doing a manual conversion?

By the way, NICE 77:D I envy just about anyone right now with one.

We will look at them first and see if they can be repaired. There is a mechanic here that has an aexcellent workshop with just about everything. He has to make his own spares sometimes here in the desert - so we are confident we can repair them.

Will keep you posted though

This may help
Thanks for the diagram. The one I had is similar but not as clear so this one is good.

By the way do you know where i can buy a service or workshop manual on the 77? There is a company in Australia that has 3 different ones (Haynes, Gregory's and Ellery's) but they cannot tell me if any one of them covers the 77.

Anyway we will keep on looking.
