Im new to the idea of building an off road trailer, but believe i could put one to good use, so i am going to try and build one. i have a m416 in the works so hopefully i can get that, but i was hoping to run the same tires as my jeep. i run 37's, so would they be too tall? itd be nice to only have one spare. im not rue how difficult it would be to move the fender up in order to clear room but that along with an SOA is what i was thinking. what i want in this trailer is gas cans/holders, a water tank, toolbox on the front, swing out tire carrier on the rear, a custom tailgate(its already been hacked out by someone), a lid or cover, and i was considering a roof rack type thing on top of the trailer. if anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, or pictures of a rig that meets similar criteria that'd be awesome. ive been through every page of the trailer tech forum and there are lots of good ideas i just am trying to gather them into one place for easy reference. thanks in advance. sounds like alot of good people on this board

The "One Spare" idea is very common and a lot of guys do it. I don't advise it. They make the trailer taller than it needs to be, which affects stability. It results in a tire size that is inappropriate for a trailer. And would you really go into BFE with only one spare when you have 6 tires down? I don't and wouldn't.

Now making the wheels so that you can put either spare on the other rig in an emergency isn't a bad idea, but for example in my case the trailer tires will be 31-10.50's (about as big as I think should ever be necessary) and the FJ runs on 33-10.50's. So the difference isn't huge and if need be I can run either spare on either the FJ or the trailer.
