Hi All,

New to this forum, but not to Mud. I'm sure this has been covered, and I did use the search with not great results. I am a current LC owner, but I am looking at Sequoia's for a family road trip vehicle. this is something that will be used a few times a year, instead of renting something. I'm not sure of the differences between the generations, and what years are better than others. The other consideration is interior room. I am 6'3", 330lbs. My boss had a 2017 Tundra that wasn't too comfy. IDK if that rules out second gen's. I am not really worried about miles, thought the less the better. And i know it's counter-intuitive, but I'm looking to not spend a fortune on one. Maybe 8k? otherwise i would buy a 100 series Cruiser. I know that limits me to mostly first gens, and that's fine. At the top of my curiosity list, is whether the cloth interior is more comfy than leather. I like leather, but I have already replaced the seat in my 80 series because it wasn't good for my back. all info is good info, so I look forward to the help. TIA

The 2nd gen sure feels as spacious if not more spacious than my first gen. I have a double cab 2021 tundra and I don't feel the seat goes back as far. I would say however that the Sequoia isn't that much more spacious.

I'm 6'2 and 205lbs and either vehicle is decently comfortable.

Thanks for the info. I have a 2023 crewmax for work. Its not very comfortable for me. It is a base model, so not many creature comforts. It would help if the seat went down, and back a little more. It also feels a little cramped with the center console being wider than it needs. I never drove my boss's second gen Tundra crewmax, but from the passenger seat, the seat was hard and not super comfy either. Its funny that the newer Toyota seats (my mom has a 13 Lexus rx450) don't fit me as well as my first gen 4Runner seats. maybe because I was WAY skinnier back then. I have a Silverado 2500 with leather, and my best friend has the the same truck with cloth, and they fit different. That was the reason of why I ask about cloth seats. My 80 has leather, and I had to put a Scheel-Mann in it for it to be comfortable. I REALLY don't want to do that again.

BTW, your Sequoia is real nice. you have done some good work to it. It's going to be interesting to see how the lockers work out. Is the second gen a IRS? That is what it looks like to me.

Yep, the 2nd gen has IRS. A vehicle that was truly meant to be a comfortable ride. It was never really meant for off-road use. I think it really only has 4wd for inclement weather conditions and pulling a boat out of the water, maybe moving a camp trailer down forest service roads.

Don't get the wrong impression. Sequoias are capable offroad vehicles, I was pointing put that Toyota probably never intended it to do much offroad and focused on the ride comfort and quality. Even my 1st gen 2wd went places others dare not go in their jeeps or pickups.

I don't doubt that it would be able to go wherever I would want to go. I was just unaware. I'm curious if the lower ball joints in the rear have the same problems as the front. And I'm sure most of the problems I see with front LBJs are mostly user error.

I haven't heard of any ball joint issues front or rear on the 2nd generation Sequoia. The fronts were an issue on the first generation but I haven't seen anything on the 2nd gens.
