movie review....

After installing an Aussie Locker in the rear differential of my HJ60 on the weekend, I got out on the trails for a quick test (in 2WD: I wanted to see how well it would climb without the hubs locked).

Here's a short video showing the Aussie Locker test:

thanks for postin, very interesting.

:bounce:

we should go wheelin sometime.... :)

cool clip. love the diesel.

i am thinking about getting one for my 83 fj60. I have to replace the seals and bearings anyway so while im in there!!!!!
How long did it take you and did you have to replace the pinion shaft and the thrust washers?

Thanks

Glad ya liked the vid - why do diesels sound so good on tape?

Installing the locker itself probably took about 3 hours. It's pretty straightforward, but sliding some of the parts around takes a little time and manual dexterity. I couldn't get one axle to pull out and had to "encourage" it for about an hour, and then it suddenly popped right into place. Most of the time is spent getting everything prepped and then put back together.

Fortunately I didn't have to replace any parts, and all measurements were well within spec. My HJ60 has 328,000kms on it, and inside the diff is like new.

But I don't recommend refilling your diff with gear oil in cold weather without a funnel (I was in too deep to run to the store for a funnel so ended up "making" one. More oil on the driveway and me than in the diff...)

I'm writing up the install and and will have it posted in a couple days...

Buy gear oil in a one gallon jug that comes with a pump and hose. Or better yet, a five gallon bucket and bucket pump.

So far I've always relied on the turkey baster!! I too have had a crappy cheap pump experience.
An Aussie Locker has been on my short list for a while... Maybe one is in order this summer.....
