Hello, Im new to all of this so dont laugh too much.
I just bought a 1991 fj80 with 135k on it.
Is there any major problems with these fjs?
This will just be my daily driver for right now.
Paid 5900.00 for it.
I have a 94 $-runner for offroading.
In the process of bobbing the rear and cutting off the back of the top.
I dont know much about cruisers.
I also owned a fj60 but sold it.
Anyway just wanted to say hi.

Wheel the 80 and save the 4Runner for commuting.

fj80 has an EFI relay issue.

I know this sounds weak but I already have to much love and mods done to the
$-runner to be street friendly. ( spool in rear and 34 inch swampers)
Besides the wife would freak out on me.
First thing she said to me was NO swampers on the cruiser!!!
I am to afraid to disobey,I have to go to sleep sometime. Ha Ha!
And I just bought an axle for the $-runner sas.

Welcome. You will wish you bought '93-'97. I love all 80's, but the '91-'92 is painfully slow on-road, yet great off-road. Too bad you bought the SAS kit for your 4runner.

I already wish I bought a 93 or up.
This thing is as slow as my 67 split window vw microbus.
However its nice to drive a cruiser again.
I had a fj60 but the rust was just to much.
This is only the second cruiser for me.
Also why the sorry about the $-runner sas ?

Never thought my previously owned 91 was all that bad. Certainly woudn't describe it as "painfully" slow any more than I'd describe my 94 as "fast".

If you're moving up from a 60 series, I wouldn't think moving to a FJ80 would be a disappointment.

Don't worry about people who say "you should've done this or that"......it might be different had you asked prior to the purchase, but now that you have it, and like it, don't worry about that. With any year there are quirks.

Best thing I can offer since I am a new owner, is to forget the chat section, and go in and READ the 80 tech section, as far back as you can go. This will take you 20, 30, maybe even 40 hours, depending on if you read threads about hardcore 80s or just the problems and fixes for the core trucks themselves. You will find newbie guide links to other sites, and literally a wealth of info.

PUT IN THE TIME....READ......PUT IN THE TIME....#1 suggestion here.....Use the search feature.

Sounds like you have the abilites to do most work yourself. Go through the truck and do PM, tune-ups, you may find a few extra horses that way. You will find a member here can send you parts at a discount, and a lot of willing, great, knowledgable folks to help you....but a few tards along the way. Pay attention to who is saying what when you do the reading, and you will learn who to trust the most, but for the most part, everyone has something to offer. Just read and search first, reference that, so no one thinks you just pop in and are wasting time going over stuff already covered....

Oh,...and I'll close with a warm IH8MUD salute :flipoff2:

My point is the that your 80 already has a SFA and the 4runner might be better as DD. They are both great vehicles. Can't really go wrong.

Compared to '91-'92, I would call a '94 "fast". ;p

Wow... $5900. I didn't know 91's were fetching that.

Not a bad deal for only 135k miles.... I see them going for $5-6k with 200k miles in NorCal.

all I have to say is

3FE POWA!!!!!!!

Wth is dan kunz when you need him,

Welcome and as long as you leave stock size tires on it and tune it up it will treat you fine on road. mine is moded a bit and running 33" tires and will still hold 70 on most roads here (nw corner of washington) all you have to say about the lack of power is at least I dont have to worry about my head gaskets..........:flipoff2:
