Hi All,
My name is Stephen and I met some of you at the January breakfast. I flew up to Portland, OR on February 4th and took posession of a 1993 Toyota Town Ace van with diesel power, hi-lo range 4wd, manual locking hubs, limited slip differential, and it’s a JDM import with RHD. It was just shy of 17,000 original miles when I picked it up and is now just a hair over 19,000 after the 2000 mile trip back to New Mexico. Seems I missed the last club breakfast meeting as I just recently got back. I would love to come to the next meet up for breakfast and show off the van. Are they regularly scheduled? Any day runs in the offing, or suggestions for good places nearby to put the van through her paces? Thanks

Man that is cool. Can't wait to see it. Club breakfasts are monthly, usually the ~2nd Saturday of the month but it moves around a little. Runs are as often as someone decides to go on one and lets other people know they are going somewhere. And welcome, officially, since you've created your first, official post with your cruis..., er, 4X4.

Pretty cool! Toyota sure never made one like that for the US.

How did it do on the long road trip? What sort of fuel mileage did it get? Is it built and geared for US highway speeds? Manual tranny? Five speed?

We would definitely like to check it out.

Stephen,

A super cool rig, congrats dude! Hopefully you'll get couple of shake down runs before joining us on the AZBDR run. Can't wait to see it on our next breakfast outing.

+1 on cool factor..

It did great on the long road trip, very smooth and comfortable ride. Mileage ranged from 19-22 mpg, depending on terrain. No, it is NOT built and geared for US highways, so as not to stress the engine it’s cruising speed is 100 kph (62 mph) running around 3000 rpm. It’s a 2.0 4 cylinder turbo diesel that’s just broken in at 19,000 original miles. It is the top trim level of this model of van and thus was not available with manual transmission, so it has a 3 speed automatic w/overdrive, which still seems to do the trick! Looking forward to the next breakfast which I assume will be March 9th.

Way cool van. I've always wanted a Westy. That's even cooler. I'll have to be sure to make the next breakfast to check it out.

Is the next breakfast on the 9th?

That is awesome! I was just looking at one online last night. Way cheaper than a Westy Syncro. Can't wait to check yours out.

and waaaay more reliable than a Westy, I'd think!!!

Is the next breakfast on the 9th?

Not sure on the date for the next breakfast - might be the third Saturday? That would be March 16.

Someone will chime in with the date soon.
