Hi all,
I got a call from my friend this morning to tell me he is getting rid of his 88 62 and thought that i might be interested since i have kinda(very kinda) been looking for one. Anyway, he made me an offer to trade a little bit of my cash for his 60(thanks Sean). I have a 95 80 right now and i will be keeping it in the family. :princess: loves the idea that it will become hers as soon as I get the 62 up and going. So here is the deal; The body is pretty straight with the exception of the front bumper and right quarter a little smashed up(no biggie), the engine runs but I think the HG may be toast(milky oil on the dip stick). Other then that, the interior is in pretty good shape and the birfs look pretty good. there is just a few very minor rust spots as well. I am a 1-2:banana: wrench so I will be scouring the 60 area for any helpful threads. I will look through the FAQ as soon as im done typing to try to get a baseline done. I will also be looking for HG info as well. I have wanted a 62 for quite some time now and i am really lookinng forward to getting this one road worthy. I appreciate any and all comments and input. The folks over in the 80 area have been more than helpful and i look forward to spending A LOT of time in here. here are a couple of pics for you viewing pleasure.
Thanks for your help,
Paul

Welcome. Buy a new HG from C-Dan or @ Toyota dealership. It's made by Fel-pro but not the same as the kit at your parts store. Better and improved and endorsed by Jim C. too. -M.

I am in limbo as to weather I should take on the HG project myself or let my mech. take care of it. He gave me a cost of $2600 and he will take care of a few other things while he is in there. Is there a HG DVD like Idahodoug has for the 80's? At that price is it worth paying $2100 or so for an engine from SOR? If I do it myself I am seeing posts that say do all this other work while youre in there. Im not sure if I will be in over my head on this one. Any thoughts? Oh yeah, I will get everything from CDan... he is the man!!
Thanks,
Paul

seems like

It seems like the most important associated job is the valve adjustment, furthermore, IIRC, the 62 has a 3FE, right? I heard those heads like to warp a lil more than the 2Fs so it may be a good idea to have it milled which means taking the rocker assembly off then back on.

If thats 2:banana: then I am not a 2:banana: wrench myself

BTW, Welcome to the 60's section! Nice color on that rig!

I'm not much of a wrench but pulled and reinstalled the head on my 60. It wasn't that tough a job. Never been into a 62 though. You can do it. Take your time, follow the FSM, and post up here if you have problems.
