Hello everyone. I'm new to the site. I recently acquired a '78 Fj40 from my father. I'm looking for some help to rebuild it. The orginal engine needs to be rebuilt or I can swap a v8 Chevy in. My dad gave me most of the adapters to do the coversion. Any ideas on where I can get a reliable 350? Any ideas on who can put it in for me? thanks for the help.

Adam, Welcome to the the ONSC forum. The rebuild is usally a little easier then doing a conversion. as you already have all the parts, brackets and wiring. don't really know anyone to recommend installing an engine over your way. maybe one of the other members can provide you with some more detail.

Again Welcome!!

Eric

You are going to get a lot of mixed feelings on rebuild v.s. conversion here.
I say that if your motor is toast and you already have parts for the conversion go ahead and do it. You will end up with better mpg and more power, after driving in a stock fj40 and then a stock one with a V8 conversion there is no way i'd keep the 1f motor over a conversion.

I presume you are looking at sbc to do it. Check craigslist for one. Your biggest obsticle is deciding whether to inject it or go carb'd. If you go the injection route find a used vortec, they are the simplest to wire up. Or find a nice used 5.3, more work to wire up but a great motor.

Welcome.

Dont rule out a running 2F to throw in there. You can find em readily for 500ish (that is untill i needed one and they all disappeared until after i had started my rebuild :D)

Lots of folks have been known to throw a temporary 2F in there and never end up replacing it.

1000 bux to rebuild the 2f yourself w/ associated new parts and some cash cushion.
SBC is cheaper and easier to rebuild, but the adapters get up there in price.

What are you going to use the truck for? daily driving or trail use ?

Another good choice if wanting to keep all toyota. Is a 2FE..... with a turbo.:hhmm: Been wanting to do that for a while only time and money gets in the way

If you have the adapters and the Toyo engine is toast then I'd go with the conversion :D.

BTW - you know you need to post pics with an intro :p!

Welcome!!

I absolutely love the 2F, and would source a used one and pay for it by selling the adapters!!!

:flipoff2: Welcome!!!
