Hey guys,

I am new to the area and new to the forum. I just moved to Spanish springs and I have an 1983 FJ-60. It has a rebuilt 2F, mostly De-smogged. The truck is mainly stock. I am NOT new to Toyota's. I have been working on them for years I use to have a 1983 4wd Pickup with lots of mods, the FJ60 was my secondary 4X4, Gas millage was a killer. I love working on trucks myself. Fabricating and rebuilding everything and anything.

Welcome to the area. As you are or have figured out, we are a wheeling mecca. Want to go to the mountains? Check. Want to go to the desert? Check. Rockcrawling? Check. Snow wheeling? Most years...

Be careful with the "desmogged" part of your 60, Washoe County is a smog county and your rig will have to meet the emissions standard (to include a visible equipment) of your year vehicle.

Welcome! Where did you move from? As locrwln1 states above we are fortunate to live in a state with almost unlimited outdoor entertainment opportunities including a million miles of roads to use in route.

You will soon learn, as all of us transplants have over the years, from the highway and secondary roads our mountain ranges look dry and desolate. But once you get in to our mountain ranges, numbering about 350 depending upon your info source, you will discover a treasure trove of flora, fauna and history.

Our local PBS affiliate, KNPB, filmed a series of explores coined "Wild Nevada" a number of years ago but serve as a good stepping stone for us back-country travelers and "dirt campers": http://watch.knpb.org/program/wild-nevada/

My biggest criticism: Nevadans sure like to spread their litter around. So if you don't own one I suggest you buy a Trasharoo (no relation or money to be gained on my part) or similar and help the cause! Here: http://trasharoo.com/TRASHAROO /About.html

And lastly: As wide open as Nevada seems we have been targeted by the wilderness agenda. So please think seriously about contributing to the Blue Ribbon Coalition, etc. That and regular e-mail/letter communication to our local, state and federal representatives along with the US Forest Service and BLM will help bolster our side of the equation which has been relatively anemic in comparison.

Cheers and look forward to meeting you "out there"!

Dan

Thanks For the welcome. I Registered said FJ60 as a classic vehicle and I do not drive more than the 2 or 3 thousand miles a year. No smog check.

I am excited to get a good shop built here so that I can do a lot more fun projects. SOA/ Axle turn, safari rack, just to name a couple. I left most of my major metal working tools in Ohio. Time to go shopping. I need a nice plasma and a mig/tig/stick machines.$$$$

spressomon Thanks for the heads up I will look into the trasharoo.
I will think seriously about contributing to the Blue Ribbon Coalition. I am a minimalist when it comes to government. Any encouragement i can give for less regulation I am all for it.
