I found a new gas tank for my 83 long bed online on autozone. Just measured my tank and compared it to the many models they had. It ended up being 19 gallon tank instead if the 14 falling original tank but had very little issues fitting it. My original thank was completely rusted through on the inside.

Does it have the provision for the return line? What part number is it? Did you take any pics of it?

yeah it was exactly what I needed. I obviously had to contend with the fact that the new gas tank is deeper due to the extra 5 gallons. but it was very minimal adjustments to make it fit. I just had to make a relieve cut on the bed floor support beam and bend it a little and will have to modify the skid plat which I haven't done but its just a matter of sectioning it an dadding three inches to it. easy stuff.

The long bed tanks are larger though so keep that in mind. I don't have a part number but I can look through my files and see if I can find it.
also the part that goes into the tank had to go in reverse because the bolt pattern was slightly different than the original.
The gas fill hose also had to be modified because the diameter on the tank is larger than the original.
Now that I remember I think I ended up buying a tank for an 85 long bed truck which is a second gen.

but all I did was drop my tank then went on to the autozone site and typed in the year and make and searched for gas tanks. Then just compared the pictures. to mine and the tanks with similar gas capacity.

you can see some pictures of it mounted on my build thread of my 82 pickup PROJECT RECON.

hope this helps
