Hello all! New member here in Seattle and new owner of a 2014 GX460. Stoked to use this as a family road tripper and light off roader, camping etc. for my kids and I. Its already been modified recently with some tasteful mods!

The first things I plan on doing is adding a rear seat USB power port, upgraded speakers, and a fold down camp table for the rear door. I’m trying to find kayak racks that work with the Prinsu roof rack.

Falkin Wild peak AT tires
TRD Pro bronze wheels
Ome suspension
old man emu Lift kit
Old man emu upper control arms
Toytec Differential drop

Nice looking rig! I love the look of the bronze wheels on white, I did the same on my rig, but with Icon wheels.

Thanks! It drinks a lot of gas but I’m sure enjoying it! It’s so cool to see what others have done to their rigs on this site.

Just a hint, if this is your first Toyota product, unless you get a Prius, one never purchases a Toyota or Lexus for fuel economy.
People who know, purchase them for their durability and reliability. I have never got rid of a Toyota product with less than 200,000 miles. And when I did, it was usually for cosmetic reasons, like the interior was all worn out, the paint was chipping, etc. basically just not very pretty any longer. But almost everyone of them when I sold/traded-in, I could have driven it across the U.S. with no problems in reliability.

Actually I’ve owned mostly Toyota products starting with a 99 Toyota Tacoma 4wd 4 banger. I owned that for a good 10 years and then I bought a 06 Lexus IS350 which I still own. 👍 my next car will probably be a hybrid or electric to replace the IS but I will keep the GX around.

Nice looking rig, and welcome! I'm a Seattle native, but I've been in the desert for a long time. I tried the kayaks on the roof of my 100 series Land Cruiser just before I got the GX. It suuuuucked. I just use my utility trailer now. With a lift, it's way up there. Or maybe I'm just too old.

Thanks, Yeah good point I’ve been trying to figure out if I can actually manage the kayaks on the roof. 😀 I bought a single bike rack for the roof but I have to return it because it’s way too high!

You can do a single bike back on the roof of a lifted GX....if you have rock sliders! I usually grab my bike by the seat tube, step up on the slider, then put one foot on the rear tire, and lift the bike onto the roof. It's really not too bad unless your bike is an absolute pig (my gravel bike is ~24 lbs with stuff on it), but probably not possible without a slider/step to get up on the tire.

I always keep this in my rig: Amazon product ASIN B01LYW5BFBHelps when I'm having to take down my RTT, older family that have difficulty getting in my rig, and even as a stool when airing up the tires!
Fold's down flat, takes almost no space at all and sets up super fast.
Will something like this work for getting gear on your rack?

For a kayak, getting it up there on the rack is only half the battle. Messing with the tie-down straps that loop through the top of the rack that are in the center of the roof and now hidden behind 28" of kayak that is 4" above the roof of your 78" tall GX is the other half.

I just picked up a White 16 GX for my wife (convinced her to trade in her Honda Pilot) and bronze with the white looks great. I have the TRD wheels on my Tacoma, so I'm already a fan, but now I need to sell my wife on the Bronze version. Love the Prinsu too. Thanks for the inspiration!

If you wife is on the fence about the bronze wheels on white, have her take a look at my build thread here: Builds - R2M 2013 GX460 Overland Build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/r2m-2013-gx460-overland-build.1104719/
I love the the bronze on white! Way better than all black wheels. (apologies to the guys with all black wheels...)

Wow. Very cool. Those are definitely GX goals right there. Thank you for sharing! I love the darker bronze wheels. Looks like Stealth Customs in dark bronze might be the way to go. Thanks again!
