SWEET! thats what i'm talkin bout. I can stare at 80's all day long.

what have you done so far?

I was thinking I would start with the 2 1/2 inch kit from OME, only $800 bucks.

I wasnt able to go on the fun trail runs because I did not have sliders. So I had to pick and choose - I didnt do alot of picking!!!
But my rig has 170K miles and the suspension needs an upgrade so I went with the lifts.

Sliders are next though.

I recommend sliders for most of the SoCal 80 runs.

If you are still on OEM shocks/coils, then this upgrade will be very nice and a good place to start. It's what I'm currently running. Consider the heavies instead of the medium if you plan on adding front/rear bumper, sliders, etc someday. You'll be glad for the extra the heavies give you. Ride is still very nice IMHO.

I'm running a Slee 6" lift w/35's, Hanna sliders and an ARB w/warn 12000. Definately pricier than an OME lift and I still think the OME is the best lift for the $. It's just that for what I plan on doing, I really wanted a 6" lift.

Aw, come on now Alan. We totally cater to the newbies and those with stock rigs. Hell we even let Heeps come on our runs.

FromCJtoFJ, the biggest recomendation I can give is to read the FAQ more than once and do a search on any mod you may be thinking of doing and learn from the mistakes or good choices of others. I just did an after the fact search today that would have saved me alot trouble had I done the search first. That is what this forum is for and there are alot of very knowledgeable people on this board. I dare say that this is the best 80 series tech database available.

I actually tallied (after the fact) the "wasted" money from my first Toyota build that I started in 1990 and I came up with close to $10,000 worth of stuff that I either paid too much for and lost money or bought and threw away when I realized I needed something different. That was over 11 years but you get the point.

Look at the big picture, plan ahead as much as possible, and try not to make any impulse buys. It will save you money in the end. You will always be welcome on our runs and a few missed difficult runs will be much better than a huge rocker panel repair bill.

Now if you want to beat your rig from day one we will welcome that too. Just let us record it for prosperity. :flipoff2:

Agree. Now if I can turn back time and bought brand new 35s.
Just ask Rayjon about his wifes running boards on a Big Bear run - which was recorded for prosperity better yet read and chuckle at the accompanying comments!

I remeber watching Ray smash them, with her in the car! Ray is the man. :grinpimp:

I have been doing my reading. Ahhh , there doesnt seem to be enough hours in the day. :crybaby:

Everywhere i click it only seems to take me deeper down a side path.

I think I love this place:bounce2: :bounce:

OK
It look like I'll be ditching the running boards before the run.
Anyone want to join in and help taking em off, or a word of advice just post it here.

Running board removal is a piece of cake. Three nuts on each side. If you fear any rust, just hit them a day or two in advance with some PB Blaster, WD-40 or the like.

Only warning - let your cat's cool off on the PS before removing that side! :D

And don't let them fall on your face. :flipoff2:

LOL! I still remember the evening I returned from Millers Jeep Trail with bent running boards. They came off in about five minutes and in another five minutes I'd taken the sawsall to them so they'd fit in the garbage can. :D

I once got rid of an entire 65 vw in the curbside trash minus the trans, engine and tires. Took a few months and alot of cutoff wheels and sawzall blades but it worked. All I needed was the vin plate. ;)

I had the bright idea to sell them on ebay.

Hows the saying go.. theres a s:censor: born everyday... no

I remember taking mine off made it look lifted a little. Might help untill you get some springs under it. ;)
