new tires for the 100 - the agonizing decision

Let us know about the ride (firmness vs OEM P-metric) and road noise w/ OEM. I still have another 15-20K mi left until new tires are needed, but don't really want a firmer/noisier ride.

I too am close to a new tire time...18". I am coming off Bridgestone HTs and am leaning to AT Revos. AM curious how much firmer ride and how much additional raod noise I will get with the Revos.

I put on a lot of highway miles with soem mild off road. Also, want good wet and snow handling...for Minnesota winter that is coming soon!

The 18" Revo's are a P metric tire according to Bridgestone's website. This means you should give up little if any ride quality. The A/T tire will offer better off road traction at the expense of dry handling and possibly wet handling. Given the Revo is a mild A/T tire it should work well.

REVO

I just put on a set of the REVOs 265 70R 18 and love them. OD is 32.06 and they fit my 04 100 very well.
total cost was $195/tire installed with road hazard/free rotations

I just ordered the Silent Armors also based on their overall rating, excellent in snow, but still quiet, 50k warranty.

I ordered the 275/18/65's so a little shorter than your 70's I am anxious to see how they do . I also just did front bilsteins, haven't tackled the rears yet, but I have read many posts on them.

I'll report how the tires are once I test them a little.

If mine are too rough, I will probably exercise the Goodyear warranty and trade them in for your size at a lower load rating. Post some pics once they're on, I'm curious how that 32" tire looks over the stock 31 incher.

Coolio. Let us know how you like them. They were on my list too when I went to replace the BFG MTs, but somehow I ended up with Toyo ATs. Love em on the road, but not so great off.

Guys,
I don't have a 100 yet, but on my 80 which is used at 80mph on the highway, the Michelin CrossTerrain SUV tires have been the best I have tried; smooth highway ride, good gas mileage, and they last
forever; 92K out of my last set; 60K on my second set so far, and I still have 7mm of tread left.
I would not have kept them on that long if I lived up north (I don't), but I would say I could have kept
them on up to 70K+ and still be safe in the snow. FWIW.

Any pics yet? I'm curious to know how these add up. They are on my short list. I just punctured the side wall on one of my stock tires, so I need to figure something out sooner then I was expecting. Like you, realistically I don't need bigger tires. Maybe the Wranglers are a good in between??

Thanks,
JJ

Nothing from me yet. They're still in the process of shipping them from their other warehouses. One is coming from Michigan, and four from Texas. I'm hoping Monday at the latest. It sucks because my suspension is going on this weekend, and it's going to look funny with the stock Bridgestones on there!

FYI, mine will be 33s. If you get the 32" version (275/65-18), it is a P-metric tire and will probably ride a bit nicer.

I'm sure them 33s will look sweet!

I hope so, let's just see if my kidneys (or my wife and daughter's) forgive me...

Wish I could go wider too, but the trade-offs just don't make sense for what I'm going to do with the truck. I know, I know, since when are any of us "rational" when it comes to our Cruisers... :grinpimp:

Ummm.... when are you putting these suckas on?

Man, I'm in the same boat. Happens all the time. I just can't get myself to go for it if doesn't make sense. Given the small numbers of choices that are available for 18" rims, I'm thinking the set you're waiting for are the best option for what my truck is going to do.

Here's hoping you like them!

I think you need to use a better uploader for the pics, I still can't see them.:D

No kidding, I called them today to give them grief. They said they should have arrived today, but still haven't yet (as of 3:38 PM). They'd better be here tomorrow...

A set of Goodyear Silent Armors in the 285 75 16 E size was installed on my truck a couple of months ago. They roll smooth, do not negatively impact my MPG, are very quiet, and work well off road.

This is an excellent all around tire. These tires are not glamorous. They are functional!

Here are pics of this size.

Those look great. I think someone stole your center caps though...

HA! One fell off, and I am too cheap to replace it, so I removed the rest.... Yeh, I know it looks kinda hoaky...

Finally got 'em on! Unfortunately, we're leaving soon for the mountains for the weekend and I don't have time to snap any pics. Will do so hopefully next week. I can say that they certainly fill up that wheel well! They look fantastic and the ride is actually no different than the old OE Bridgestones. Just a hair more noise, but that could very well be my imagination. However, the truck is fairly empty and the tires are only at about 40 psi. Once I get the bumpers and winch back on, I'll probably run them at about 45 psi and experiment from there.
