well Since knowone has posted anything in a week or so Ill just make a post saying I got a VI on My 60. Yay me :(

Sorry to hear that Dan,
I know up here, the local wheelers don't like driving their wheeling trucks around town during the week, cause the cops up here are super crazy about old lifted trucks. (Brand new superduties on 38s with tires sticking out a foot are OK!)
Although I have yet to get one, I feel your pain. If it makes you feel any better, one of the locals bought an old Samauri with a roof cut off for 200 bucks, he went to take it for a spin across the street from his house, only to get a cop nab him on his way back driving in the ditch, no insurence, no seat belts, so basically he had to pay more for that one stupid trip than for his truck:doh: .
Cheers,
Deny

Bummer. Just curious, how big is your Cruiser, and where were you when you got nabbed?

Yay you is right :-( I was waiting for one on Poo when it was on the road...was lucky and it never happened. The plan is to have one done when it is back on the road, so all is stamped ok...and have pictures taken at the time of the VI. It should pass, as everything is virtually new.

This is in no means a credit as far as VI's go, as in the wonderful world of VI's in BC you can pull out of the inspecting shop, and be given one right away again.

I expect over the next few years to hear more and more VI's being handed out to modified rough looking 60s and 40s...even if the mechanicals are typically maintained better...as a means of having the frames checked, in addition to the regular mechanicals that are checked. That is not a bad thing.

Who is going to do it for you Dan?

The roving inspection guys can get a little STUPID some times though. I had one stop me in my old '78 Corolla and granted it was a little rusty but certainly NOT dangerous rusty. He checked out all the vital systems, horn, steering, lights etc. and all was fine. Then he went and told me how the drivers floor was so weak he could stomp through it... and proceeded to nearly break his foot trying :) while my daughter and I were trying to surpress laughter! That made him mad and he started attacking the underside with a screwdriver until he was able to make a hole and then he was finally able to issue a VI. In my opinion he would have continued to do whatever he could do until he was able to issue the VI. In other words, he had it in for the car BEFORE he looked at it!

I didn't bother with the inspection as it wasn't worth it.

That was another reason why I swapped the frame on my BJ60 this week. Now I've got a solid CLEAN frame again.

buddy down the street's had 3 vi's in 6 months on his 'new' mini truck. the guys got it ridiculously raised with 36" tires. but i think the main reason he keeps gettin issued inspections is due to his disrespect for the cops. he's always drawing attention to himself peeling out and driving over things people aren't supposed to. and during the time the cops are checking out the vehicle he's usually running his mouth, which just gives the cops more reason to look at every little detail.

Norm,

My 60 is Corys(kodiak) old soa red 60. porrly built steering but otherwise decently built. But that isnt why I got nabbed. Im not one to usally talk on the cell while driving, but I was having a "discussion" with the girlfriend and between steering the tuck shifting and allthe other junk I guess I was wandering or swaying a bit. Cop was following me on Coat meridian in poco and pulled me over. He really didnt have a good explination for why he just said It just dosent seem right. I didnt feel like arguing so I took it and left.

Im going to get Com check in POCO to do the inspection. Im putting my 1ton hy steer on this week so I should pass with out any problems. The guy there is fair towards older 4x4s and he has done about 6 trucks for the shop now including my old fj40.

Good luck with the VI Dan. I've got some OTT highsteer arms from a project, hogged to Moog ES150's...available.

metalonmetal, you're right: Attitude will play a lot into it, on both sides.

True, attitude matters but sometimes, as in my case, we were minding our own business and the guy pulled us over probably because the car was kind of dirty. He definitely had a chip on his shoulder. We did not hassle or mouth off to him in any way other than surpress laughter as he tried to show us problems that did not exist and caused himself injury in the process!

It was his day as "Supercop" I think! I'd be careful if I was you as it happened on 88th Ave. and 152nd St. in Surrey and that wouldn't be far from you apparently! He's got a bit of a journey if he's coming to find me though :)

Well as of last week I pass with out any problems. Big thanks To Garry C for lending me his tires for the inspection. I upgraded my steering to hy-steer with chev 1 ton ends patched some rust and I even have a working horn now :)
