I have two brand new Toyota side vent windows complete with motors for my 04 100. The plastic moldings on mine have two little cracks on each side (like most of them do). The ones on the truck are in great shape other than the molding and the motors work great. The new ones sell for between $600 and $750 each. Can't decide whether to install the new ones and sell my old ones or just sell the new ones. I don't see any reason to keep them sitting around for the next 10 years till I might need one. On the other hand the ones on it are 9 years old. I also don't know if the previous owner used them much or not. What would u do?

For $750 each I would sell all 4 and buy some saran-wrap!

Seriously if yours work I would just sell the new ones but finding a buyer at full price or close might be tough, you're not the dealer after all so you won't get full price.
In that case you may decide to replace them and sell your old ones. Other than your word they are both used items as far as the re-sale/ used parts market goes so either set may sell for about the same price.

At least that way you would have new motors and would not be sitting on the spares.

Q: Why do you have $1200-1500 in parts you don't need in the first place?

At the end of the day it's a cash flow question only you can answer.

When I bought it I got the dealer to agree to replace the cracked trim pieces. The salesman was not aware they only came with the whole factory window assembly. They kept there end of the deal and got them for me. I told them not to worry about the Install I would take care of it when I decided to put them on. They are still boxed I just opened to make sure they were the right part. Normally I would not hesitate to put them on, but with a slim chance of causing a water or air leak and the ones on the truck working fine, I am debating messing with them. If there was a motor problem or water issue already I wouldn't hesitate. I guess I will just put them on and have no cracks in the trim for a couple years and have some new motors. When I get them on I will list the old ones. Of coarse as soon as they are sold my son will probably put a baseball through it or I will hit a rock with it or something.

The plastic trim is just cosmetic. If you could get $800-900/pr, I'd put that towards sliders, winch, bumper or whatever.

That was my first thought. I could definitely use the money toward other mods. I looked to see if there was a high number of failures with the latch and motor assembly and have not seen many here on the board, but a few. With the way the body is shaped I have not heard anyone who smashed the window out on a rock or tree either. So odds are probably pretty good I won't need them.

Jgray took care of one on a tree. that is one of the only ones i have seen thought

Replace with new and sell the old.

Aren't there some who want to modify these?

May be a perfect test for someone who is interested.

I vote sell them and use the cash towards modifications.

Modify these how?

It's a wild idea about making them hinge full open to allow cargo access. There are solutions like that for the 60's and 80's but it's a totally different design. My 2c is that I like the motorized vent windows just fine and a fully open arrangement would probably kill that and cost big big money... although the factory replacements are not exactly cheap.

I for one have working motors but one window is loose and rattles and overextends when open... think I'll stop opening it now that I've seen the cost.
