Made contact w/ Darren at Discount Tire on Baseline and Country Club through Ogar the AZFJ club and he hooked me up with by far the best price I could get after searching online and local sources. Saved at least a $100 over any other deal. Darren appreciates the sales and I let him know I'd post the number here. His deals are legitimate, not $2 here or there.

The number to the shop and address is, 480-633-6788, 2030 S Country Club Dr Mesa, AZ 85210. Be sure to ask for Darren.

Anyway, here is the rig.

So what did you get and how much?

I paid $685.36 for my last set of 285/75/16 Nittos TG out the door - DIscount tire
I paid $900.00 for my last set of 11.50x35/18 Nitto TG out the door - Not Discount tire 1244.21
I curious what you paid because I could not get Discount tire to close to my past prices

You got a SMOKIN' deal! When was that?

I picked up 285/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers for $770 out the door. I had originally ordered the tires for OnlineTires.com for $680 shipped however they are on nationwide backorder for up to 6 weeks. After figuring in mount/balance on top of that price, the discount deal was solid for me and immediate gratification.

The 285's were a couple years ago:o(time goes fast anymore) Salem Performance

The 35 Nitto were 6 months ago at Tire Pros ($130 more then your 285's:)) and Discount wanted $350 more -I would not of used them anyway Just price check.

Scott at Tire pros (CSC vendor list) will beat any deal you bring him, no waiting for anything and you get premium service from the owners of the shop.

I have used discount in the past but I became tired of waiting, broken studs, lost wheel locks, we cant work on tires with spacers(even though they put them on), techs learning to balance on my stuff, scarping tape weights off my bling rims with who knows what, telling me my tires are 3 years old and we cant warranty them even though they have 12K on them and on and on.....

You sound like you have a connection and as long as he is there chances are you will be OK but wait until he not.

If it sounds like Im down on Discount is only because I think they suck. I have a lot of tires and tire experience, and no time for Discount Tire BS.

The last time I went to Tire pros to get tires on my boat trailer I pulled into the parking lot not knowing where to park and went to see where I should park. I was told its to late to move they have started removing the tires...it wont take that long. That Service!

Good to know about Tire Pro's for sure! I failed to check that thread and had only seen the Sears connection.

First - I think I seen you on the road yesterday in the new cruiser, looks good!

Second...deep breath...the reason I wont go back to Discount without a gun in my back and dragging my heels is THAT store. I bought a brand new set of 285 MTR's from them, a $1200.00+ purchase several years ago.
I had 275 miles on them and tore a sidewall, right in the reinforcement. It was a freak accident, in the area that was specifically made to withstand these type of challenges, possible a defective area I figured...soooooo I figured that since I had a warranty, and they were a week old that I would get a new tire out of the deal......F*^k NO! There was only an offer to take $20 off a 300 tire for an entire new replacement...with 275 miles on it!

Discount would not warranty as it was deemed "extreme" even though the tires were brand new!?!? AND I had purchased the warranty??

Anyway, I reflect what Phil said about Scott at Tire pros in Scottsdale, I have now had to warranty (2) seperate tires with no issues whatsoever, one that he did not even sell me, and the other just last month where my Ex drove into a curb hard enuf to dent the rim and tear the sidewall...not an off road tire, a 45 series street tire.

That and he is the owner, and will get you any tire made as they are independent, with lower prices than anyone else I have ever checked / quoted with period...30.00 less (each) than the next competitor for my last set of 35's.

On a side note - that set of MTR's tires went another 40,000 miles and are still rolling on another members rig right now...

Cool, thanks for the feedback and lesson learned about Tire Pro's for sure.

I've had both positive and negative experiences, mostly positive, with Discount in the past. Gave Darren (who just transferred to that store) a shot and he was able to hook me up quickly.

This page is a great local resource!!!

Is there any trick to get good price from them? I have called them twice, I mentioned CSC & Copper State Cruisers, and the quotes I got from them were higher than Discount Tires. I ended up buying from onlinetires.com.

Did you mention my name?:flipoff2:

Seriously I'm surprised. I checked prices before I put the tires on my trailer and I could not even buy them on Ebay unmounted for what I paided out the door.

I'm thinking of getting new Nitto and plan to call tomorrow and see what kind of price they shoot me. I report back

No, I didn't mention your name.

Should I get a quote from them for you? :hhmm:

... the discount deal was solid for me and immediate gratification.

You are likely to be fine, they are good with relatively close to stock setups. It is once you move past that, is where the problems start.

...the reason I wont go back to Discount without a gun in my back and dragging my heels is THAT store. ...

X2, my last visit was comical. I had the 37"s and Nitto 295's, one of the Nittos wasn't holding air, had a nail close to the sidewall, switched to the 37" tires. Arrived at discount, rolled the offending tire into the showroom and waited for one of their "professionals".

They get to me, I hand him the cert and say, the air leaks out of this tire and I would prefer it would stay in.... Does it have a flat?... It doesn't look like it, but you are the pro?

He closely examines the tire and says, we cant repair this tire... Why not?... The wrong rim, what brand is it?... Lexus, what is wrong with it?... Too narrow for the tire, who mounted it (he is holding the cert!)... It was mounted new at this store... Well someone screwed up, it is illegal for us to work on that tire with that narrow of a rim, you have to buy new rims for us to service it... Really, what size rims would you recommend?... At least 8-9"... See the designation on the rim that says 16x8JJ what does that mean?... It is just a mold mark, Lexus never made an 8" wide rim... Really, do you have a tape measure?... It doesn't matter, can't get an accurate measurement unless the tire is unmounted... Can you recommend a shop who can remove the tire so we can measure it?:hillbilly:

He goes to the PC, to show me my error. Brings up the Nitto specs, the 8" rim is in the spec for the tire and is the size rim they used to measure for the published specs.

We go back to the tire, he says, that is a big tire, what do you run it on... A Lexus, but I would prefer that it held air, is that something you can help me with?... It doesn't matter, you can mount that big of a tire on a Lexus... Like that one (pointing at my rig, just outside the window, with 37" tires), don't you have something that you know something about that you could be working on, like a Taurus?:hillbilly::lol:

Predictably, it went even more down hill from there, the manager got involved, etc. After much arguing the ended up putting a new tire on my "narrow" rim, but didn't need the drama.

They are inconsistent, the luck of the draw, sometimes no problem, done. Other times they want to hard sell, argue. In my experience they almost always good at the time of sale. It is when you come back for service that the "fun" starts. Especially if the rig has been wheeled, isn't a stock setup, etc.

Wow, this thread certainly generated a lot of conversation and obviously some past frustrations. I was just putting the information out there for folks that might be on the prowl for new rubber. Always best to call around and have multiple sources at less than retail.

I didn't choose the tires on a whim, it was after much research, perusing reviews and prices. I wanted a decent all terrain that would maintain some civility on the road. There isn't likely to be much crawling in this rig.

Agree 100%. Tires are a consumable, buy on price. For a long time discount was my go to place, have bought a ton of tires from them, but IMHO they have changed.

BTW, nice tires, betting you will be happy with them. They are well behaved, work well in the desert and take a beating!!

Go in and meet with Scott directly - be sure to mention CSC and you can use my name....:grinpimp:

I just called Discount in QC and Scott at Tire Pros. Scott couldnt believe the price I was quoted at Discount and couldnt match it. He mentioned that they were probably trying to sell me an old part number and that the date codes would be old. I dont know but I thought both had :censor: pricing. Granted I didnt mention CSC to Scott but this is the third set of the same brand tires I have had for this truck and the price has never been so high. I looked on TireRack.com and found the same tires for $380 less than what scott quoted out the door and that includes paying a dealer in coolidge $60 to M&B. No picking fights just my experience today FWIW.

On worries, buy from whomever cuts you the best deal and you are comfortable with. In my case, discount quoted $368ea for Coopers. About every other word out of his mouth was BFG, I explained that I only needed 2 and wanted to match the others on the rig. He went on & on about how much cheaper he could get me BFG's, just buy a whole set. Sears sold them to me for $291ea, then took 5% off of the ticket, so almost $100ea cheaper.

I'm in the air tool repair biz and tire stores are the last place to make a buck. The BFG rep will tell the store; for each X number of tires you sell this month/quarter you get a free gun. So they have stacks of new guns, when they don't like the one they are using, toss it and open a new one. Most tire stores/chains have sweetheart deals with certain brands, like if you exceed a certain $$$ number of sales, you get a $$$ rebate on tires for the next quarter.

In other words, there is no one tire store that will have the best deal on all brands. One store will push one brand, another store a different brand, all attempting to meet the quota for the program(s) that they have going.
