I got a Thule roof rack from another mud member(Monkeyboy), a few weeks ago. The great thing is how it all worked out. I just happened to be going to Seattle the week after he had posted it, to help some friends move and go to a graduation, as well as take a little camping trip in the San Juans.I know The Big Man upstairs was looking out for me with the scheduling.
Any way so we got them (my friends) moved and all that.
I think I'm gonna like the rack. It seems pretty lite so I'm not to worried about my gutters as they're in good shape anyway. I did take the chrome off to keep them rust free though. I got a few goodies with the rack too like ski racks and a Sherpa water proof gear bag. Pretty god deal for 500 clamshells. I'll probably put my shovel back up there and maybe my handyman.
I mounted the rack under the bars with u-bolts a got from the local hardware store to keep it as low as possible. I still got about an 1-1/4" between the roof and the rack so I think I'll be ok on flexing as long as I don't use it to transport my pet elephant. I don't think she'd like it up there anyway......

dude, you got a nice rack :grinpimp:

what's the model of that thule? i need something like that for my fj60 :)

Now you have to add some screws so the cross bars do not slide out of the side clamps. Put some weight up there and you will see what I mean. The little allen bolts do not allow enough clamping force to firmly hold the bars in place. I lost my RTT while wheeling.

Good idea

Hmm.. I was kind of thinking the same thing. Were the bar goes through the mount? Mine does not even have any allen screws or anything. They're kind of hinged, see the shiney metal part below the writing. I think the idea is that when they're loaded the hinge action forces the mount into the rubber therefore making it tighter. But I think I'm thinking like you. I'll probably put some machine screws in it.

You mean put some screws in this area right? On the flat part above the "Thule"
