Hey folks,

I was lucky enough to be gifted a 2006 with about 300k on the clock. Up until now, I've spent all my time on the 80 forum. I still have the 80, but the idea is to have this overtake the 80 at some point... we'll see.

First issue is there is no key. There's no flat key, no valet key, nothing.

I've been searching around and I'm finding info about TechStream and other tools. My best guess right now is to just call the locksmith, which I'll be doing tomorrow. Figured I'd come here first to see what there is to see. Can I get myself a key without, as the dealer suggests, towing the car to the dealer and giving them +$500 for a single key and reseeding?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I saw a a tv show from a news company showing how someone with a tech stream and access to the car could make a key in under a minute for some Japanese car.

So, it maybe possible!

Pretty sure most locksmiths are able to reprogram and cut a key. Heck…. Lot of thieves are doing it!

I've used the 1010keys Ebay store several times. They will cut a key from photographs. The fobs can be programmed with an OBD devise that they sell as well. It's cheaper and easier than it may sound.

I believe if you take out your door or ignition key core, you can bring it to any locksmith to get the master key produced.

Also, if not mistaken, there should be a stamp on the keycore where you can bring it to the dealership and they can look up the key code to obtain a new key (more expansive) as they will sell you the FOB unit.

You will have to get it transferred into your name, or have the person who it is titled to be with you to get any help from most anybody unless you can get the key code off the lock.

Once you have a key with the proper immobilizer chip the ecu can be reset with Techstream using a passcode, or most locksmiths have the tools to do it.

I did manage to find a locksmith to do this. Cost me $395 :censor:

Locksmith was the only option. If anyone is reading this with the same problem. You'll need a good battery for the car - I had a new one but if you have one that's been sitting for a while, you need to power the car to program the key :smokin:

If you have Techstream you can program it yourself, all you need the locksmith for is the key.

Passcode calculator:

A locksmith will be cheapest.

Fun fact - Toyota can't do it for your Lexus. I asked at a dealership one time, and they told me that technically the only thing that Toyota cannot do for a Lexus customer is anything to do with their keys/security system.

They can, it is possible for them to do it. They just won't.
