Well I pulled the trigger on a slightly unusual truck.

Years ago I had a first gen 4runner which I loved. However, when my first son was born we figured we needed a better family car (those first gens had only two doors,) so I sold it and bought a CRV.

I always regretted selling that truck, so when we agreed that the CRV was a) getting too cramped for our family of 4, and b) totally lame compared to our old truck, I got the go ahead to shop for another Toyota 4x4.

Thought about a double cab Tacoma, as well as a newer 4runner. But with me being 6'4", the wife 6', and two kids in car seats, they just felt a little cramped still.

So I started looking at Land Cruisers. Ended up finding this 2002 that had a dealer installed TRD supercharger, 162k miles. West coast, pretty good service history, clean carfax, no rust, everything works, no red flags. Incidentally, also had Slee rock sliders installed by the previous owner, but otherwise no modifications.

Looking forward to getting to know it!

NICE! Would love to have the supercharger on mine. Very jealous. Welcome to the cult :)

Nice looking rig! Very unique.

Phew that thing is looking clean, you trying to make everyone drool? Don't worry about the sticker, people can look at it while you blow by them, braaaaaappppp

Definitely don't like the nav/climate control. Also discovered the 6 disc changer doesn't work--the cassette won't eject. What am I supposed to do, go buy a bunch of tapes?

So I installed the BT45-TOY for now. Note that I did not need the "required" supplementary CAS-TLC cable. I presume that cable is so that you can preserve function of your CD changer, but since mine doesn't work anyway, its a non-issue.

Will be hunting for parts to convert to non-Nav + double DIN stereo with backup cam. Anybody got something they want to sell???

300++awhp? This would scream on all gears! Can already imagine how more fun this would be after upgrading the whole exhaust.

A few pointers:
  • Full throttle is actually a good thing with these superchargers as there is oil buildup that occurs from the added vacuum at the PCV if you don't drive it hard enough. It isn't that I want to floor the throttle, it is that I have to!
  • The spark plugs ARE different that you want to use. The SC requires a smaller gap than the stock 100 series standard. Use NGK BKR7EIX (aka 2667) with a .032" gap. Stock will be Densos at about .044"
  • Buy another serpentine belt to keep around. It is a longer belt and might be harder to find. The Gates K061031RPM is the ideal belt for the job as it incorporates Kevlar into the belt to prevent it from stretching out over time.
  • If you find you need help, look up JameJr4750 over at TundraSolutions.com . He is the go to guy for the 4.7 superchargers. He won't talk by PM, but he will forward you his email.

Wow, thanks for the info!

Regarding hard driving...I jumped in and drove all over last weekend, about 300 miles. Ended up returning 16mpg mixed driving so I figure that is about as good as it gets. Expect that will drop if I start hammering it regularly :)

I did purchase that gates belt after doing a bunch of research...should've just waited for you to tell me which one.

As far as the service records I have, it lists "induction system service" 3 times in the first 50k miles, then nothing further. I am going to assume its been 110k miles at least since it had the supercharger oil changed, so I plan to do that now. I don't hear any concerning bearing noise, so I am not going to pursue a 'preemptive' rebuild/refresh for now.

Since I live in the dark-wet PNW, got the hexamat floor mats. Good color for the gray interior, and they are cut exactly to the contour of the stock carpet mats. Quite nice!

Welcome to the club; I've got a supercharged 98 that I've had for almost 3 years. Nothing like cruising up a mountain pass, mashing the skinny pedal, and hearing that thing sing!

Interesting, thanks for posting. Curious if you know if yours was installed when the vehicle was new or sometime later? How many miles on it? Maintenance or issues?

Installed later in the vehicle's life - I want to say when the vehicle had around 165K. I'm not sure of total mileage on it to be honest; I don't remember if what the PO told me. Zero issues so far in the 3 years / 30K I've put on the vehicle.
