Hey guys, new member here and very soon to be new Land Cruiser/LX 570 owner. Today I looked at a really clean 2008 LX 570. While I was checking everything out I noticed a couple of issues and am not really sure if they are big deals or not:

First was that the power fold function for the driver side mirror didn't work. I'd assume that would be as simple as replacing the mirror, correct? Is there anything more involved that would need a trip to a dealer or anything?

Second was the seat climate controls. The passenger side green light was on all the time, regardless of whether the adjusting stem was pushed in or out or what position it was in. The driver side light was not on. Not being familiar with how this operates I didn't fiddle with the driver side control. Should the light be on all the time? If so, maybe the passenger side was working?

I'm new to the Land Cruiser/LX 570 experience but have always wanted one. My truck will need a new set of tires and a 100k mile service in the very near future and right now there are several around me I can afford so I thought it would be a good time to make a move. Any advice as to the issues mentioned above would be appreciated!

It has a water leak.

Not saying it’s not a leak, but those are both common individual failures. So I wouldn’t immediately jump to that conclusion.

Leaky2014 - that's a big difference! By DIY are you saying replace the potentially faulty control/switch? I read about ECU failures but they seemed to show themselves by the light not coming on at all.

lx200inAR - any experience with either? Thinking really hard about pulling the trigger on this but would rather not dump a couple grand chasing these issues. Looks like LH mirrors are about $700 new for the entire assembly. Climate switches are about $200 new from Lexus, I'm sure they can be found for less.

The DIY is fix the leak yourself, clean the corrosion yourself and replace the bad pins in the junction boxes or bypass the bad pins with wire.
The $12,000 is the dealer replacing your wiring harnesses.
There are a couple posts on here that the member has had quotes for this repair or has had insurance cover the repair. This isn’t a number I pulled from thin air.

A sunroof drain or cowl issue both can get water into the a pillar area by the floorboard, Then there are three or four mega couplers on each side that you see pictured above. These are where all the many individual harnesses combine to serve the dashboard and ecus. So a water leak can affect a bunch of stuff - or nothing. Many variables. Proceed with caution.

Leaky2014 - thanks for the videos. They posted as I was typing. I don't smell a musty/moldy odor but that doesn't mean there isn't a leak. I'll be sure to check that if I go back.

It could be from a long time ago, the parts you mention aren’t really necessary for the truck to be driven. People lived for a long time without heated seats and folding morris.

It could also just be an unplugged connector. Or a blown seat ecu. Both of which are minor issues.

You're right grinchy, they aren't necessary but I like for everything to be in working order on my vehicles. My entire 25 year career has been in maintenance and maintenance engineering so staying on top of repairs is a big deal for me.

I doubt the dealership will allow me to tear apart the kick panels and take the connectors apart so are there any other signs I could look for? Discolored carpet maybe?

Can the pins be bought? I'm comfortable replacing the pins if needed as long as I know what they are.

It could be both sides. I’ve been into these connectors in a minor way and repinning the car side would be an event.

You’re right it would be hard to troubleshoot to any depth prepurchase. If all the other functions work ( master door locks, mirror repositioning, all the dash lights work when pushing the control buttons, you can access 4 lo and central diff locks up) you can probably find your way to fixing the seat climate and driver mirror.

Just be careful.

This was my primary concern with the 200 series, especially the LX 570. There are just so many connectors and gadgets to get messed up. I went to buy an 03 Land Cruiser today but the dealer was very up front and honest in telling me it had some issues and they were not willing to sell it. I started looking at this LX since it was on the lot. Everything else I tried worked. My initial thought was these were minor issues that could be easy to resolve but this whole leak thing has me rethinking the purchase. While the 100 series isn't without problems, the 200 series seems to be on another level as far as potential electrical issues.

Heated/Vented seat controls.

Green light is ON when switch is selected any level of cooling or heating, and only OFF when in the top 12 o'clock position. Does not matter on whether switch is up or down. If your light is on permanently, the below diagram would indicate a faulty switch unit only.

Just my two pence worth. Yes, the 200 is more complex, but it is all relative and as normal the kind of faults that these trucks have are nearly always common faults. It is down to each individuals comfort level and also also how handy and confident you are with looking for and fixing faults, and I would say if there is a choice then go for the 200 series. Try to find a good independent garage who maybe specialises in Toyota/Lexus, or if you are confident go and get Techstream and ODB/USB adapter and download the tech manuals. Lots of great data and also this forum is amazing for its owners and support.

Good luck! Don't be put off by some simple heated seat switches and other minor gremlins. You will sort them.

There is a great independent Toyota/Lexus garage near me. I'm quite comfortable diagnosing and repairing issues as well. I usually leave the mechanical repairs to shops and do the electrical/electronic repairs myself. I'll look in to the Tech stream as I'd need it for either the 100 or 200 series. For what it's worth, my buddy (who owns a 100 series) says to go with a 200 series. I'll be towing my boat quite a bit and the 200 series is definitely more capable there. Guess I'll say a prayer and see if I can get a good feeling for this vehicle and go from there.

I would check for a Lexus label on the lower driver-side corner of the windshield. Improper aftermarket windshield installations are not uncommon on 200s and can lead to electrical gremlins.

Good luck.
