New guy from CA here.

Just picked up a 2003 LX470, 121k miles, 3rd owner. Colorado and California car, looks pretty good so far. I've only had two days with it.

My only worry is to double check the timing belt, I can't find anything that says that it's done.

Any other recommendations? I have considered changing all the fluids and starting fresh, but it might be overkill as the servicing up to 80k was regular from what the records say.

Looking forward to learning and having fun with this new vehicle.

No records beyond 80k would draw my suspicion that the TB has NOT been changed. There should be a sticker on the cover if done by a reputable mech or dealer. The parts kit comes with the sticker, so doing the work and not spending the 30 seconds to put the sticker on seems illogical. My $0.03 (inflation)

There are records past 80k but a lull of service at Lexus from 80-100k approximately.

There is sadly no sticker, so my intuition is that it has not been changed as well.

My first project is to inspect the condition of it, before ordering parts.

Hello,
As for the 20k lull in documented servicing, it is unfortunate that the major 90,000 mile service falls under this. I would recommend calling your local Toyota dealer as well just to make sure it might not have been preformed there.

For instance, when I purchased my LX 2 years ago with 70,000 miles, I had the 90k done at Germain Toyota as opposed to Wilde Lexus and I do not believe Toyota offers the ability to look at servicing ala Lexus online.

In addition to the T-belt and Serpentine belt, replacing the water pump is called for and are most always preformed in tandem (called for in the 90k). Furthermore, unless records indicate it, I would also replace the spark plugs and flush the AHC fluid.

You are on the right track and it looks like you found one heck of a truck.
Best,
Jack

You can look up the service history on Toyota.com with your VIN to see if the 90K service was done at a Toyota Dealer. If you can DIY, there's an excellent TB/WP kit on Amazon that offers OEM parts for under $150.

That was the thing I was not certain of, whether or not the Lexus VIN would work on the mothership's website. I will try that momentarily as that would be great if that is the case.

As it, so far, is the only time I went to Toyota instead of Lexus, I might consider doing that in the future. I was living in SW Florida at the time I purchased my LX and the aforementioned Wilde Lexus were so slammed at the time that it would have taken 2 weeks to fit me in whereas Germain Toyota could do it immediately. Furthermore, the Technician working on my LX had been at Wilde for 20 years prior to switching.

Not that it really matters as even AHC was offered as an option on 06-07 LC's in the US. (AHC/Skyhook was offered ROW on Land Cruisers at introduction on top range models)

Like I feared, when you get to the last step of registering at Toyota to have access to service records, upon entering the LX's VIN it bounces you back.

When I bought mine a few months ago I was pleasantly surprised to find the above mentioned sticker. I had service records with the vehicle but only some were in the Toyota dbase upon VIN search

Welcome to Mud! If you've not found the forum FAQs, they are a treasure of good stuff.

The TB replacement sticker instructions are to put it on top of the right camshaft pulley cover. Oddly that's somewhat hidden.

I will take a better look around today! I have only really checked the engine cover and that general area.

Thanks for all the help everybody. My fingers are crossed still. Worst case scenario is a busy weekend of changing parts.

You guys saved my ass! Drivers side cam cover!

Changed at 112k!

I'm literally jumping for joy!

This rig is road worthy!

You can register at the Lexus site to get the same maintenance history.

I already have the Lexus maintenance history in hand. Thank you.

I took the tires off today to inspect the suspension and brakes, everything looks tip top.

Springs looked almost new!

Congrats man. Purdy truck.

Welcome Aaron, Nice LX!! First mod I recommend is to ditch the running boards
