Hi all. Joined the 80 club. Have 2 40s but wanted something a little safer for the little ones but still able to have some fun. Its a 97 LX450 with 120k miles. Great interior, some scratches but nothing major.

It is completely stock except 1" spacers on 35s (315s). Have the stock wheels and tires for it too. Don't think it will stay stock long though. Have the center lock switch and plan to do the pin 7 mod.

Bumpers, sliders and a winch before summer hopefully because as I have learned, when you are stuck with lockers, you are usually really stuck.

Just ordered a set of the Slinkys stage 1 and metaltech caster plates. I've read and read and can't really find a consensus on what else is needs besides brake lines to finish this up. Any suggestions?

Take off the running boards and trim off the black part of the rear mud flaps (box cutters) and enjoy the look. Best free mods.

There is no consensus because every owner and truck are snowflakes along (and not limited to) the condition, economics and OCD fronts.

I would personally go with Delta arms over plates if I could do it over again. I found that the plates shortened up my wheelbase by a smidge. Plus you don’t have to modify the stock axle at all with the Delta arms.

Owning and running a clean 80 series is a labor of love. I’m presuming same deal with 40s.

Welcome!

Welcome! I’d also look into some skid plates as the transmission pan on these are now unobtainium. Base lining everything will become your labor of love. I’ve found that most of the rubber bits on my ‘97 were all ready to be replaced; bushings, hoses, vacuum lines, seals... Just keep the wallet ready.

Thanks for the ideas. Sounds like a skidplate should definitely make the short list.

The running boards are coming off for sure. Trying to get some front mud flaps now.

What I really need to do is find the ground loop in my stereo I installed. I think I need to ditch the factory amp because that's not helping things.

So after being a happy owner for a couple months I hit a pretty good sized deer. Bumper gone, drivers fender smashed to hell. So.... luckily the insurance company didn't try to total it and I'll be upgrading my bumper sooner than planned.

the body shop quoted a new fender, but I didn't think they were available anymore. Anyone know?
