Can I use a 30A in place of the 15A without damaging wire, relay, etc?
I have some large 225W LED spots on the cruiser now, and the factory fuse isn't enough, they draw close to 30A. Can I swap in a 30A without damage, or do I need to wire up a whole new system and switch?
Thanks! I'll post pics ASAP.
FYI, the lights are awesome! Got them from Amazon. $250 for the set. Knock-offs of the ARB lights. They didn't fog up in a heavy Oregon storm, so they seem watertight too.

That makes sense. Definitely worth the cost to avoid an electrical fire. :)

If the 225w is accurate, and not some overinflated Chinese specs, or a "LED light equivalent of 225w", even a 30a fuse might not be enough.

225w x 2 = 450w (for a pair of lights)

450w / 12v = 37.5a
450w / 13.6 = 33.09a

jLB-

IT's an inflated number. They draw about 13A each.

Wire a relay off of your current driving light circuit and run the main power wire for the lights off the battery, through the normally open set of contacts.

That's too much draw through the factory wires for sure.

Thanks for the input. A friend is going to help me wire a 40A Bosch relay and harness this Weekend.

I might consider wiring the relay to a dedicated switch if you are going to the trouble of adding relay and separate wiring. There may be times when you want to run both high beams and your LEDs together. Tying it to the fog circuit will cut the power when you switch to high beams.

There is a mod to fog light switch to have it not tied to high beams posted somewhere here. I have done it and it is an easy mod. I added a relay for my aftermarket lights as stock wiring is tiny.

Ahhh cool-I would like to know that mod for The LEDs I have tied to my fog circuit(much lower draw). I'll start digging around for that thread.

Let's see some pics of the new lights!

I was going to wait til I rewired, but I can put some up in a couple of minutes. Gotta say, very impressed with the lighting and throw from these lights. Can't speak to durability yet, but as this is my SAR rig, they will get lots of abuse in coming months. :steer:

I've got pics, but can't get them to post. Is there no upload option on MUD?

Jeezuz you're sporting some lumens between the light bar and those spots, which probably explains the unknown light phenomena in the PNW the International Space Station has been trying to figure out- :D

Those 9" rounds are NO JOKE. More light than the bar, and way better throw/spot pattern.
