New Key Shell Replacements

I saw this thread and thought I would give it a try as my shell is being held together with superglue right now. Everyone I have talked to has said it is a laser cut key and wants to charge me $100 bucks. Does anyone know a place in the Atlanta area that will cut it for less?

Find another locksmith - mine charged me $4 for cutting 2 key blanks. Lowe's wouldn't touch it because of liability. Try your smaller ACE and True Value Hardware stores if you don't have other locksmiths around.

I think the issue here is the difference between a standard key and a laser cut (inverted) key. That seems to be my snag as the LX has the laser key. I was hoping that while in Atlanta I would have better luck as the Toyota dealerships here on the Gulf Coast don't have the tooling to do it. Greed is what stopped me from having someone in Atlanta do it as they wanted over $100 to simply cut the key. I contacted a Lexus dealership a couple of hours away from here and they will cut the key blank I send them off the VIN for $34 which includes shipping. It may not be $4 but it's a heck of a lot better than $100.

Got it - makes sense. One more way to differentiate the LX from the LC. Glad I have the LC this time around lol.

Bought OEM key shell from CDan. Local Toyota dealer cut key at no charge. Transferred chip over. Bought and installed new button battery. Works perfect. :-)
