hello,

here is my problem, I purchased a 2005 landcruiser with only key (master key) I bought two extra keys through Amazon. I programed the keys, keys will unlock and lock but, will not start the vehicle. So I took it to a Toyota dealership to have the immobilizer part program they could not make them work. I figured there were probably cheap keys so I ordered one factory key from the dealership. I got a call telling me they also can't program the new factory key and not sure of what the issue is. I have looked through the forum and questions and seen issues with the immobilizer not working at times. My original key always starts the vehicle every time. Has anyone had issues like this. Thanks

I bought my 99 and the guy gave me the factory key with lock/unlock and a secondary key. I asked why and I found out the factory key he gave me will lock/unlock but will not start the ignition so I'm in the same boat. The secondary key with no buttons starts it just fine. I may have to head to a dealer to figure it out.

Are you sure you have a master? Does the security light go out immediately when the key is inserted into the ignition?

First make sure you have a 'Master Key'. You can not program additional keys without a working 'Master' (unless you have the ECU reflashed).

Once you've determined you have a working 'Master' the next thing to do is to delete all keys except your master. It might be that you have too many keys (the OP might have programmed keys to it) programmed to the ECU and it will not accept any more.

if you still can not program them, I'd look to be sure you have the correct 'chip' in the transponder for your vehicle and check your 'procedure' again.

Let us know.

It took me two days and lots of grief to program new keys. I even took it to a Toyota mech and he couldn't get it to program either. Ended up getting it to take when I showed him what I'd been trying to do.... go figure.

i only have that one key that starts up the truck. the other keys work unlock and lock but will not start the truck. took to my buddy who is works at a dealership as a Toyota technician. he said there is two types of keys (part numbers)for that year and order me a second one hopefully that will work. he also knows that i have the two other keys. I'll keep you guys inform. thanks

Is it possible that the previous owner put the immobilizer chip behind the bezel around the ign? That's what I did and several other so you can just use a regular key.

yes, its the master key. the light does go off.

It looks the 2005 part # change is your but just as an FYI, the light will still go off if it's a valet key.
  1. Security light continues to blink = The key is not recognized
  2. Security light stays on for 2-3 seconds = Valet key
  3. Security light goes off immediately = Master key
From TLC FAQ

If you have one key that works, you can take it to a good locksmith and they can "clone" the RF chip and cut new keys for ~$70 each.

Able Locksmiths in Anchorage uses an Ilco-brand cloning machine, and charges ~$70 per cloned key.

You can check to make sure they work before you pay for them, and this solution eliminates the hassles of trying to program new keys into the system and dealing with dealerships. For cloning, it does not matter if the existing key is the master key or a valet key.

It is alleged that it can also be done through the "hokey pokey" method, where you do this 6 times and that 5 times (and so on) but I've never had much luck with that. Techstream is quicker and easier, and seems to work every time.

I'd find it hard to believe that the dealer would've used the "hokey pokey" method over the techstream method.

I purchased an additional Lexus credit card key set off of eBay that came with the wrong transponder chip for my vehicle. With a little research, I was able to order 10 of the correct transponder chips for ~$30 from eBay user kisskeys, and swap out the chip.

I suspect the OP's issue is the programming slots are full, or he's got keys with chips for another year.

I agree that the easiest way to solve this mystery would be for the OP to get ahold of a mini-vci cable and techstream.

Thanks for the response. I guess there is two types of keys according to my buddy who works at the dealership. He order the second key different part number and it worked. The keys that I bought through amazon were not able to be program. "JLB" Going to order some of the transponder chips see if they work. once again thanks for all the help everyone.

Can you please post the link of the key you bought from Amazon?

I had this exact same issue. Apparently programming the fob to lock and unlock is not the same as being able to program to start the car.

I ended up bringing it to a reputable locksmith and paid him. He looked it up in his book and ended up using his computer.

Worked like a charm. The key was an Amazon key.
