Hi All,

So last week in VA while I was on vacation I picked up a couple of bumpers I had a friend make for me.

One is 1/4" bent steel with the winch plate and end capped, I ordered some weldable clevis mounts and will have Eric weld them on for me when they arrive. I left them out in the rain for a couple of days as I was told new steel had a lot of oils in it that would cause paint to not take as well unless you let them surface rust before cleaning up and priming and painting. (since I do not know, I listened).

Anyway, the 2nd spare bumper is out of 5/16 structural channel and I will need to do some grinding then drill the mounting holes myself later which is why it is not already drilled for mounting.

Here are some cr@ppy pics. More as I prime and paint. If anyone has interest, he is able to make some on a small scale and the pricing is reasonable..around 150. Pending how much different they are from the drawings I sent him.

Mine are 42 and 5/8W x 5"H

Hah - thanks guys, I wanted them pretty stout in case I hit a daniel...er a rock again :D

Hopefully they will work great and I will post up pics as I get them cleaned up, primed and painted.

Hi All - been slammed at work and needed to plumb the new compressor, had fourtrax weld on my d-ring mounts and started grinding on the new bumper.

Couple of pics.

Starting to prime it today. slowly but surely.

Looks great. I am working on the same thing right now. I wish I had a grinder to work with. Have been using a grinding disk and wire brush on my drill :p. How course are the disks you are using on your grinder?

I'm also interested in where you got the d-ring/clevis mounts.

Good luck!

Pauly - I used an 18v Dewalt to strip paint off of 2 doors, and after $30 in bits and $100 in replacement batteries (burnt mine out from charge-drain-charge-drain), I finally bought a $40 angle grinder. I highly recommend picking one up - it'll also save you a ton of time. Get a few cutoff disks, flapper wheels, and wire brushes and you'll be golden.

Diggity, How is the project going? Any new pics?

I just picked up an electric grinder. That makes a heck of a big difference. I couldn't make any headway with a drill.

Hi Pauly,

I will try to get some more pics up in the next couple of days. I have just primed and painted the entire bumper, inside and out. No the cable passthrough is not closed up. cannot see a reason to.
