I've been lurking on the diesel page her for quite a while trying to pick up some knowledge about the 2H engine. My HJ currently does not run, I haven't attempted to start it, I'm looking for advice on how to go about the first attempt and not cause damage to the fuel system. Later on I'll be swapping it and the 5 speed trans into a nice rust free FJ62, and will be back with more questions about converting to 12 volt and many other things I'm sure.

You cant damage anything if you have clean oil and fuel and the coolant is ok.
Depending on how long since it last run,you may have to bleed the injection system.
You might want to do a few other things like making sure the EDIC is moving correctly ,that the glow plugs are working ,change all the filters and that you have a strong battery.

Diesel engines typically have 4x the compression of petrol engines so they can kill a battery pretty quick if they are not good.

Once the engine is running,I would do compression test. Its better to have bad news before the swap starts
Its a good time to get a factory service manual.

From the looks of things this truck hasn't run under it's own power for a few years. I'd love to have an FSM for this truck, are they still available to purchase?

Yes ,I think someone was selling reprints in the US for about $40. There are also some online versions, sometimes free, sometimes $15 or so.
As with all landcruiser manuals, they come in 2 parts,an engine manual and a body and chassis manual,so you need to buy both.

I would also tip a teaspoon of engine oil down each cylinder. Some crank the engine over for 20 seconds to see if it can make oil pressure.
