New here wanted to say hi, lil update

new here and i will be reading alot in here, well i already have. i will have some noob questions so please be patient with me. now a lil bout myself i just bought a 64 fj40 for 350 dollars. the body is in decent shape, suprisingly no rust. both master cylinders leaked bad so i just replaced those along with the slave for the clutch. on the way i have steering stabilizer bar from rough country and a rebuild for the center arm. none of the lights work yet and the suspension is all sacked out. i got a guy coming to look at my dirtbike tomarrow and if he buys it that is 3500 to put into the cruiser so here is my short list so far. 32 inch super swamper tsl's and rims. 2 1/2 inch rough country suspension lift. rebuild of the carb, all new soft top for it has a plywood top on it right now, probably a bestop. also like all the drums the cylinders leak bad, so all new reuild for brakes. my gf and i took it out last night and put about 50 miles on it and my buddies had me plowing down tree's with it and it took it like a champ. i even got pulled over on some lonely backroad but he let me go without any fines (luckily) also i am gonna get a herculiner rollon bedliner for the inside. the color is a hideous sage type green color so i am thinking bout sanding it priming and painting it silver or gunmetal. but just wanted to introduce myself and wanted to say HEY.

thanx for the welcomes everyone. my location is in northern minnesota. i also plan on putting a block heater on it and getting a snowplow and using it as my plowtruck this winter. it only took me about 35 min with my atv so with a bigger plow on this i am hoping it will only take me about 15 min (i hate plowing snow). so this is a pic of what my girlfriend calls my hillbilly machine, it is kinda fiting i guess that you can see the trailer court in the background.

what do you mean the bows are very repairable? and for the interior it has some actually comfy bucket seats in it. they are blue so i am gonna get camo seat covers and cover them. in the back it just has like a seat cushion for the one side. i am gonna get an actual seat for one side and i am gonna bolt a box on the other for ropes, chains, snatch block, tools, whatever i need. the plywood on the side is already gone for as i said earlier i am gonna get a bestop and put on it. the drivers door has a slight crack in the framing about halfway down so that is why the top is bowed out so i will weld that and get it straight. the plexyglass is so faded you can't see through it so i will get new plexyglass. i was also thinking of taking the canvas off the door and cutting some diamond plate metal and pop riveting it on instead. or maybe just a get a sheet of thin metal and paint it the same color as the cruiser is the route i am thinking bout going actually.

hey you have some very elusive(read hard to get) parts for a factory soft. If you decide to get the best top soft top can I be first in line to buy the parts on it now?

I love that color. Looks like you may have stumbled upon a jewel for $350.

i can take another pic of it this week when i get time with the sides off. it looks to be mostly factory tubing but someone welded some pipe's in and it looks like chicken crap welding. which bezel is upside down? and when i get the money to put a softop on, lunyou i will sell you the parts if you are interested. and hogan what part of the state you from?

I love it....only someone from Minnesota would describe that as having "no rust". Believe me-I am from MN as well and can tell that the truck is fine shape. You do understand that would make someone from the southwest fall-over though. The old sheet metal is just the best-only reason why you are able to drive that today. If that was an 79-83 FJ40 you would be lucky to have the frame after 44 years.

Dont change the color! If I am reading the paint right-it looks like "Spring Green". It takes a real man to roll around in the factory spring green......I have one too.

i am kinda thinking the same thing about the color, it is kinda growing on me. and you are right in minnesota that is considered rust free. the rear sill has alot more rust on it but the rest is pretty well much just a lil surface rust. i am gonna just go through and sand it and then prime it and rattle can it so i don't know of anywhere i could find the spring green or baby puke green color anywehre that would match perfect. oh and i got the front blinkers and the rear view mirror coming from the guy who had it before me too. and how fast do your guy's fj's go? i by no means want a speed demon but it seems kinda underpowered for a straight 6. i am thinking i can get about 45 out of it. i don't think it has the original motor in it either, the top of the valve cover says chevrolet on it and from what i have read these are supposed to have the 1F motor based off of the gm?

weez the bezel is the round thing that surround the headlights. Check my avatar. The black piece on the front of my truck is the bezel. The thick part, while it looks like it should be on the bottom, is supposed to be on top. The older LCs had a stamped bezel, with Land Cruiser stamped in the thick part making it really easy to see which side is up.

On a side note.....just let me know when you want to sell the top parts via PM(private message) and I will try, if I can afford it to buy it from you.
