I'm a nut for any Land Cruiser and have always wanted an 80. When I ived in Colorado I had a fairly built 100 that was great. The last few yearsd I've been Cruiserless...I was driving 50K per year for work, Now I am back to flying nearly every week, so I can afford to start the obsession again. I bought a rust free white 1992 FJ80 in Atlanta in February with 200K on the clock. The truck is going to be my college age sons who goes to school out west. We have already put nearly 9K trouble free miles on it driving to Idaho, Michigan, Iowa, etc. Sadly, it is headed to Northern California with him in a few weeks. Sad for me, not him! I have spent the last few months catching up all the PM (all fluids, plugs, wires cap & rotor, thermastat, radiator cap, charcoal canister, vacuum lines, etc, etc), removed the running boards, added front factory mud flaps, new tires, and put new OEM front rotors and pads on, etc. The truck will be used on the road mostly, but he loves to get in the back country to camp, fish, mountain bike, etc. I love the fact he is driving a tank even though it goes through a s***load of gas. He loves driving a "cool badass Land Cruiser" in his own words! Much better than the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee he had before. Now his nearly 16 year old brother and 19 year old sister want one! I will be looking for a 60/62 or an 80 for both of them and probably an 80 for myself in 6 months or so. I like to do most of my own work, but currently don't have a garage so certain things are a pain. Also, I am pretty capable, but there are certain things I might want a mechanic to do. Can anyone suggest a good independnet mechanic in the Birmingham area that is familiar with Land Cruisers? I moved here from Colorado and there was a great LC mechanic on every street corner!
