Hey gents,

I'm new to the site and was recently directed here via another thread in the classifieds. I've got an '82 FJ40 that I've had since June and am interested in doing some restoration work to it. Currently it has a soft top, but I just recently acquired a hard top and ambulance doors. Everything needs to be blasted and painted. The rig is in fairly good shape and runs well but needs a little body work. Would any of you guys know a good place to consult on this? The closest place I can find so far is Mudrak over in Sonoma. I'm in Fallon, so about an hour east of Reno. Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! - Jake

Welcome New Guy! I too am relatively new but have met some pretty cool guys already! And If its advice or help your looking for this is the place! These guys have been very informative!

Jake,
Are you looking to do the work yourself, or pimp out the work to a shop?
Most of us are too cheap and do a lot of our own work, BUT there are many great shops around the Reno area as resources.
They may not be toyota specific, but....
Tell us what you wanna do, what needs to be done and how much you wanna do yourself.
Combined, there are MANY, MANY years of experience in various strengths involving automotive work in the club.

Keith

That being said...,
If you're looking to pay for a resto on your rig, there's really not a shop locally that I would trust to do ALL the work. Mudrak has a SOLID reputation in the cruiser community.
I've heard many horror stories of local shops butchering cruisers. No one around really KNOWS them, it seems.
There are other cruiser specific shops in the Cali area. Just do a bit of research on here and find a shop that suits you.

If you are looking to do it yourself, recommended- it's not that hard just takes time, pm me and I can give you an idea of time and what it takes,

I second what Keith said on shops butchering cruisers, most shops do insurance work, quick and dirty, also they don't work with metal as thick as a cruiser, or do metal work on a daily basis. so they tend to pound it in and bondo over, that is one of the reasons many cruisers have rust, bad bodywork and not sealing up the metal and moisture getting to the bondo...

Good luck,
