Windshield cracked, safelite is coming out to house to replace. $100 deductable through insurance company. Anyone use safelite before, how was their service and how good of a job did they do? Any thing I should be looking out for?

I had safelite do a chip repair on my Camry because they are the prefered company of my insurer. The tech hardly got any epoxy into the chip and now I have to have the expanding legs "stop drilled". I knew the repair was bad right after it was done but the tech said "looks just like it should."
Like everywhere else I think your result will depend on the person doing your job. Is this going to be OEM glass? Several people have had problems with thier windshield installations because the LC has a system a little different than other vehicles. I would get the FM instructions, provide them to the tech (request thier most experienced tech and say something nice like "I'm available whenever your best tech is available.") and then supervise without getting in the way. Also give him a nice clean shady space in the garage to work in. Nobody does thier best work baking in the desert sun.
Just a question for anybody who has an OEM windshield... Is there some type of UV film on/in it? Similiar to what all the other windows have except without the tint? Looking for answers from both LX and LC owners.
There's a lot more heat that comes through my aftermarket windshield than my side windows. If I can get a UV protected windshield, it would save on fuel (AC usage), keep my leather from cracking and keep the vehicle cooler when I first get in.
SWUtah, insurance companies always want you to get aftermarket glass but you might be able to specify OEM glass (which is probably twice the cost) just like you can specify OEM body parts for a collision claim.
TRY to get someone out of their shop who has done LC/LX's before - at the very least someone seasoned. They are not easy. You should insist on talking to the shop foreman and explain to him that you know people who have had to have them redone 2 and 3 times (I would be one of those). It's cheaper for them to get it right the first time too!
SWUtah-
Did you get any info out of your repair guy about these windshields cracking easier than others?
Hoser-
I'm not aware of a UV film on the front. I know some films look funny if you look through them with polarized sunglasses. I could see this on my old 4runner but not the LC.
On a second note- Anybody know the purpose of the lip on the sides? Is is simply to project rain and grime up the windshield? It does make a nice handle when I climb up there to clean the windshield.
Here’s a post I did on my safelight install. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=103117
It’s not the company’s fault, just the bone head that does the install.
I need to get the doors looked at, but will have to wait until I get back from Hawaii.

My install went well, experienced guy, I watched him and it should be sealed very very well. A lot of that black sealer around the edges. The work order said they used a 1998 LX470 windshield. It has tint along the top. Nice to have a none pitted new windshield. If there is a problem Safelite backs up their work.

If I understand you correctly this is the space where the rivets sit...the frame that holds the windshield is riveted in place...the only vehicle I have owned that has this method of securing the windshield...which is why one needs to ask the glass installer a few 'trick' questions to make sure they have done one before, understand how to do it and have the appropriate tools...

The installer used stainless steel screws instead of rivets to reinstall the stripping that holds the windshield inplace. Seemed like it was superior to rivets??? But what do I know. If I have any problems I will have them fix it.

That is exactly the purpose. As much as I like the old gasket installed windshields, like on 80s, the lip is a welcomed addition on the 100. My 89 BMW has a gasket windshield and everytime I clean the windshield at any speed over about 3mph the fluid flows right into the cabin. Not to mention a light sprinkle with the window down.
