i have an extra beer keg in the garage and i thought about making a fuel tank. anybody know where i should start?

They did that on Horsepower TV in there "Rat Rod" build. They cut theres down though. I think that was so they could get the pick up and stuff on the inside, or maybe it was just too tall. I don't remember. I would grab a filler neck from a junk yard and fab it up to the keg. Tap a vent, and a pickup line, and fab a hold down bracket. Might be more work than just getting one from Summit, unless you like the look of it.

Start by drinking the beer.

trust me i tank beer, alot. i said i had an extra keg. i uess i need to hit up the shop book to route in all the lines. i realized a long time ago she cant drive on the strret much more. so whats a keg gas tank? im just going to buy some fuel cell parts and start before i go to iraq. i was thinking about using the stock sending unit and lines. i just need to crawl under and trace lines to plan where to put them.

Negative. Modern kegs are food grade stainless.

Yup, mostly stainless now. I built mine (sending units, fittings) but kinda crapped out when it came down to actually fitting a filler neck and cap.
Ended up going with a RCI fuel cell from summit:smokin:.

My mini truck is on the left, they are stainless. :D I set mine low as possible, half the keg is below the top of the frame. There are no internal baffels, so you get a bit of slosh effect unless its full each trip out. I can wheel all weekdn 2.5days, on half a keg :D

Its hard to picture, but I used a piece of square 4x4 box to make a windage pan for the pickup. I also made 3 lines, one all the way to the bottom as a pickup and 2 for vent/return lines. With the EFI and not needing to pass emissions I could have gotten awy with just 2 i think. I used a stock Toy filler for the neck, uses a stock toy gas cap.

I accualy made it before I could Tig, so I tacked it up with some stainless wire, then brought it to a buddy for finish welding. The only leak I have EVER had is the cap, I have to get a new one I think my vent is stuck. (Or I have to stop filling it so full)

Added a couple pics... you can see the lines and the catch pan on the bottom... kinda in these.
