I just picked up my new FJ (TT SE, 6 spd MT), and am already loving it...

I'm trying to take it easy on it for a little while, but I took it out on some easy trails the other day... it was too clean when I picked it up :p

Anyways, I live in Utah (Salt Lake City area), and I was curious if there are any other members in this area, and where they usually go wheeling? I know there's a chapter of the TLCA here, the Wasatch Cruisers, but with the purchase of this new truck funds are tight and I don't know if I feel like paying to join a club right now. They also sound pretty serious about how many runs you have to attend and whatnot, and as a self-employed small business owner (hang gliding school) I have to keep a pretty flexible schedule...

Well, I guess that's it... just thought I'd say hi! Any Utah locals that don't mind a tag-along, let me know (once I get a few more miles on her)...

here's a pic, went up American Fork Canyon, and up towards the back side of Lone Peak (which you can see in this photo)...

What up wings. I live up the street in Sandy and am hooked on the FJ. I have a 07' and I am starting a rebuild on a 71' 40.
I like the photo, I skied up there this winter. We should try to get out soon. I need new rubber the dunlop tires mine came with suck.
I haven't joined any club either because I've keep her mostly on the pavement for now and the other is on jack stands. 30,000 now lets go for it.

2 per year, that's it.

And even if you don't join, they are great with tag-a-longs. I've meant to join now for a year or so but lost my application and it's low on the priority list right now. Great group to wheel with and they're awesome with newcomers!

thanks guys!

I kind of thought you had to be a member (or prospective member) to tag along... I tried signing up for the Wasatch Cruisers forum, but appearantly as a non-member it won't let me post... maybe I'm just retarted, I dunno...

I don't even have 300 miles on the FJ yet, so I'm a little timid about taking her anywhere hard core, getting brush scratches along the sides, etc... but if you guys are heading anywhere I might be willing to take such a new truck, would you post it here or send me a PM? I'm pretty new to Salt Lake, so I don't even know where to go wheeling locally, other than places where I hang glide...

I did take her out yesterday to a very steep loose gravel pitch where I could try out the A-TRAC and rear locker... never needed the locker, and barely got the A-TRAC to kick. The bubble thing on the dash said I was going up/down 30+ degree pitches, on loose gravel, I'm amazed how it just walked right up and crawled right back down like it was flat tarmac... AWESOME.

Here's a pic I took while out playing... FJ posed on the "back bench" of Point of the Mountain, Salt Lake valley and Wasatch Front mountains in back (and my pup Jackson in the foreground... he loves his new travel box :D)

You Utah boys... your southern brothers don't consider our FJ's broken in unless there is some "Arizona pinstriping" on the rig. Come on down and we'll show you a good time and add a little charachter to your whip. Introduce you to some mesquite. Oh, by the way you wont need a jacket.

Don't get the wrong idea, I will definitely be adding some character to my FJ... you should see my old 4 Runner I traded in, looked like I gave a pinstriper on crystal meth free reign

While I know the truck's built for the road less traveled, and that's where I plan to take it, it's also my first NEW car, and a $30,000 car at that...

Once I get more miles and that oh-so-painful first scratch out of the way, I'll be up for anywhere :D

Thanks for the invite, maybe I'll take you up on it!

just let a 4 year old get near it with his toys that should get the first scratch out of the way. thats where i got mine within the first eight hours of ownership.

:doh:was it your own 4 year old at least, or did you have to borrow one?

I actually have a funny story that goes about like that- my dad had just gotten a brand new 4 Runner, about the same time I was learning to draw stars in Kindergarten... well while he was mowing the lawn I somehow figured out that if I rubbed a rock on the side of the truck it would make a nice white line... long story short I covered the sides of his truck with (well-drawn) stars... then proceeded to go get him and show him my good work.

I lived through the whole thing, and if there's such a thing as karma I'm sure my new car will be getting scratched up real soon...

EDIT: He might fly out here and do it himself!!!

i hear ya wings, i still cringe going thru holly and mesquite, but i still go. i told my wheelin buddies that i wanted to wait at least a year before brush trails but you know how that is. all or nothin.

...

a very good friend ofmine moved to SLC recently and is closing on home beginning of September but wants an FJ...likely a 2008 when 09s are released and they start giving incentives.

If anyone is able to hook up with him and show him their FJ modded and such....would appreciate it. He is big time hunter and outdoors guy too....

Just PM me for his email.

Nice truck. and great pic's :D

Welcome to MUD :flipoff2:

Hey Wings! I live in Park City and have a similar FJ. I am new to the FJ world but have been wheeling cruisers for 12 years now. We should meet up, I have a shop in Heber where a few of do us do all our builds and mods, lots of cruisers to play with. Besides my new FJ has less than 3000 miles on her and I am trying to do the same.

Cruise Diesel,

You didn't happen to be up in Little Cottonwood canyon this past weekend (when it snowed), were ya? I was heading up the canyon and for the first time I saw another white/trails team FJ on the road...

Seen several at different dealerships, but that's the only other one I've seen out on the road... how many of us could there be in the greater Salt Lake area?!

I'll be working in Park City this winter (Deer Valley), so I'll be there nearly every day... do you ski???
