As a follow up to https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=16895&highlight=exhaust

I owe a huge thanks to Koffer  for hooking me up. First, Koffer meets me at his shop at 6am (well, I was late actually :whoops: ). We play smokewrench for a while and hack off the old system (remember I have tubing welded on to protect the cats, so it was time involved). Had to drill out one of the mofo studs that snapped. Decided to let the exhaust shop put the new cats on since they'd have to cut them etc. Cost they charged for this was $100.

Oh, and the drive over to the shop was loud as I was running no pipes. With the blower on, dang it was loud and hot.

Went back today and got the cat back system done. Could have done it in the driveway, but having them do it on their lift, and being able to try different muffler setups etc, was too good to pass up. Ended up with a Flowmast 50 and some busty bends to get it tucked oh so sweetly. Cost for this whole day was $270.

The cats I put on were from discount converter Toy3280 @ $201 and Toy3270 @ $147.

May have been able to get it done cheaper. Maybe slightly different, but those guys taught me a lot about exhaust today and I learned a lot from the experience.

Thanks again Koffer. :D

Hey Junk,

Please tell us if you got the Delta Flow 50 or not, and how it sounds... All the talk about droning scared me off from Flowmaster, but I had 50 Delta on my previous truck and liked it a lot.

Looking forward to pictures.....

Yeh, can't wait to see how they routed the pipe. Junk do you have a body lift? Or are you still running the pipe under the frame rail?

I ran a Flo 40 on my little 3.4L Tacoma with a dump pipe and LOVED it. Gave a very low rumble that was NOTHING like a rice rocket the kids drive. I actually had people ask me if I did an engine swap with a V8.

I am a bid advocate of the Flomaster line. Interested to know if Junk went with the delta flow or the regular 50.

So $720 total? That is a lot better than what you originally thought you were going to have to pay.

Junk - WTF? - Hurry up with the pictures so everyone can point out the flaws in your new investment. :flipoff2:

MoJ - yes, there is always a flaw. In this case, I wish I had the routing availabe in earlier cruisers to go above the frame rail after the cats, but the way my truck is set up, where it is tucked now has never been an issue. Also, I use very little skinnypedal when I wheel.

gineric - yup and they told me if they did the whole thing at their shop, custom from manifold back it would have been even cheaper etc. This saved me tons of money and I owe a huge thanks to Koffer. Through my local club (www.gclcny.com) the lcool lists (www.lcool.org) and here, I have managed to find a great group of friends that seem to see beyond my typical BS and help me anyway. Just further proof that no matter what, anytime a cruiserhead needs help, another cruiserhead is usually willing to assist. I know that's not just here, but throughout the TLCA and cruiser community.

Doc & Mud, Yes, it's the 50 series Detla flow part number 942451. http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cgi-bin/flowmaster/942451.html

If folks want a .wav file, I'll make one. The sound files on their site sound loud, but then again, looking at the samples they have it looks like they are targeting the street/strip crowd.

Only a few long drives and a few wheeling trips will prove to me whether or not this is a long term solution. Right now based on cost and immediate need, it fits the bill perfectly.

What made you choose the 50 series over the 40. Just curious.

I don't believe that statement for a second! :flipoff2:

So your exhaust is routed normal, so you have the cats then the dip under the frame then wander out the back somewhere?

I know what you mean about loud, I have been driving for WAY to long with a 12" exhaust pipe on the cats, no muffler at all (no s/c for me though). Oh and don't drive with that burning hot smell much, it's usually undercoating and wires melting, which is a VERY bad thing, I melted and fried several things on mine (gas tank filler tube, gas breather, all rear locker wiring)...many, MANY hours splicing in new wires...but atleast I got good at soldering and shrink tubing...

Take some pics!! Sheesh!! :)
