Last week, after a lengthy search, I found an 80 that suited my needs. This site was absolutely invaluable in influencing me to buy my 80 and in mining for information about my new toy. So of course I had to post up and say Thanks!

I bought a 1995, 129k on the odometer and lockers of course. It was the cleanest I could find with maintenance records to accompany the truck. When I first went to look at it I was satisfied with the condition but the lockers would not engage. The owner replied “I never even knew what that switch was for”. To make a long story short, the seller proved himself to be an upstanding gentleman and paid nearly $800.00 dollars to the stealership to replace the diff lock sender on the trans case as well as the diff lock actuators front and rear before I took delivery.

In the week I have had it I have become absolutely enamored with the truck. It has met my every need thus far and impressed me with its off road capabilities in stock form. I bought the truck to use as a daily driver and to wheel as much as possible. I swore to myself I would wheel it in the first week of ownership. Accordingly, I took it to Big Bear, CA yesterday to run the Gold Mountain trail (yeah, I know it’s the easy one but the truck is neither lifted or armored so I am taking it easy until I complete the mods). I proceeded to mangle the running boards which I found quite humorous. Well, enough blabbering, here are a few pics:

Welcome. It looks likeyou got a great truck!

Welcome! :flipoff2: Great color! Great Find! Very nice to have the lockers maintained (esp. by the stealership). Great job on the running boards. Check out the For Sale section as Clownmidget (mike) who also lives in Riverside has some 1st generation Hanna Sliders for sale at a tremendous price (if he has not sold them yet). I think that you will find many Hanna loyaltists in this section.

I myself am not lifted YET. I do have what is in my sig though and have been very impressed by the capabilities of mine @ stock height. Thus far I have not needed the strap once (although the only challenging trail that I have run has been Millers Jeep trail).

Look forward to seeing you on the trail,

Smit

thanks

thanks for the welcome guys.

thanks for that lead smitty. I have contacted mike about those sliders but am waiting to hear back.

Hope to see you guys on the trail soon!

Welcome indeed. :flipoff2: Happy to have another in our ranks. I personally think white is the best color out there, ;) but others will argue otherwise. It is indeed easy to love a truck such as an 80 quickly, believe me I know. We are doing a very easy fun run on Sat the 25th if you check this thread , if you haven't seen it already. You are more than welcome and your rig will not have any trouble.

Our little area is very low key, you can already be considered a member if you like. We just meet for the ocassional trail run or pm get together. No dues, no official meetings, just a good group of people who like to wheel in a family friendly evironment.

Hope to see you on the trail soon,

.

Thanks for the invite guys! I would definitely like to be a member of the socal80s. I will be running Gold Mtn again in Big Bear with a few friends on Saturday though so I will miss the OC post-Thanksgiving run. I was really thinking in my head that that run was tomorrow (Friday) but I guess I was wrong on that one. It sounds like I am going to miss a good one though. Hope you guys have a good time.

I look forward to getting on the trail with you guys soon though.

What Mo Said! Welcome! :flipoff2:

Biff also has some Hanna sliders in the for sale section if he hasn't sold them. Keep an eye out there. If you need family friendly sliders, I'd recommend Slee's step sliders.

Got a good laugh on your mangling the running boards. Welcome to that club! I roasted mine on Miller's Jeep Trail. :D

Great find on the truck w/lockers. Stealerships  - probably only needed the actuators being changed out, but since you didn't pay for it all is ok and you've got a great mileage truck with fully functional lockers!

Love the pic for your avatar - any history or meaning behind the screen name?

.

There is no real history behind the name. I have always liked cheetahs for their capabilities both physically and mentally. I have red hair so I just started using "redcheetah" as my online handle.

I love that pic as well. I think it was taken in a game reserve or one of the cheetah conservation institutions.

As for the running boards, those are now in the trash. I ran Gold mtn. again today and had a great time although I am now lusting for mods! I am addicted.....

Welcome and glad to have you... looks like you scored on one with 129k and lockers....

Brent, Mo and Tare--- another white cruiser...did you guys have something to do with this..:D :D :D :D

You can't force greatness, it just happens. :flipoff2: :grinpimp:

I like to think that I have "good" and "evil" covered. Of course the "evil" one is the :princess: 's DD. :grinpimp: :D

I am beginning to think it's a white crusier conspiricy, :D :D :D

color

I think that white is the best color, but I would have taken damn near any color if the truck was in good condition. Although I have to admit that the forest green color is not my favorite. My mom had a jeep that color and it looked dirty twenty minutes after I would wash it for her.

I also like the silver/charcoal color that I think comes on the 40th ann. edition.

You ever notice that the dark green/clearcoat fade to white because they are jeaous? :D I am with you, I am not into washing much and white hides the dirt much better. Cooler when roaming Baja without a shade tree in sight also.

Welcome Redcheetah :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: , hope to see you on our next run. First item I would purchase for your for rig is a set of rock sliders. These rigs are very capable in stock form but due to their low stance the rocker panels are very vulnerable to damage. Since most of my wheeling over the years has been in the desert, white is the only color for me. In fact all of my rigs have been white except one, my 1989 4-Runner that was silver.
