Like you needed yet another reason to make some Turkey sandwiches? Well maybe not but we've got day a run for you!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce2: :bounce2: :bounce: :bounce2: :bounce:

I've always wanted to run this entire section of the Santa Ana Mountain range. Until recently, you had to have
the key to Skyline Drive in Corona located at the North End of the Forest. Well, since they've started developing
houses in that general area, you no longer need a key. This now makes the route wide open for us. This will be
a day run that is planned just get out for a nice get away from the city and smog. It should be fun for the whole
entire family. Nothing too technical or extreme. Just a fire road with some very nice views of Orange County
and the Inland Empire. If you want to join up and run this with Yosh and I, here are the details:

When: November 25, 2006 Saturday
Where: Carls Jr. Parking lot / 91 fwy @ Green River Road, Corona, CA 92882
(91 Fwy East, Exit Green River Rd., Make Left over Bridge, Carls Jr. is on left handside near Coco's)
Time: 8:00 AM Sharp!
Vehicles: 2wd Trucks and SUV / 4x4
Off Road Mileage: 40
Trip Time: Day Trip, estimate at least 6-8 hours
Food Prep: Bring sack lunch and plenty of water
Fuel Prep: 1 Full tank (Please fill up before we depart Carls Jr or be full when you arrive)
Tools/Etc: Please bring any tools, parts you would normally. You never know when something might happen.

ROUTE: (PLEASE SEE ATTACHED MAP)
WE WILL BE HEADING OUT FROM THE 91 FWY EAST AND EXIT LINCOLN AVENUE. FROM LINCOLN AVE. WE WILL PROCEED SOUTHBOUND TO SKYLINE DRIVE. SKYLINE DRIVE TURNS INTO A DIRT FIRE ROAD 1712. WE WILL CLIMB SKYLINE DR. UP TO MAIN DIVIDE 3504. STOPPING FOR A BREAK AND SOME BREATH TAKING PICTURES AT BEAKS PLACE (OLD CABIN) AND THE DOPLAR RADAR TOWER. FROM THERE WE WILL PROCEED SOUTHBOUND ON MAIN DIVIDE 3504 TO BEFORD PEAK FOR ANOTHER BREAK. WE WILL THEN PROCEED FURTHER TO SANTIAGO PEAK FOR LUNCH. AFTER LUNCH WE WILL HEAD DOWN THE BACKSIDE OF SANTIAGO AND DOWN TOWARDS ORTEGA HWY STOPPING FOR ONE BREAK AT TRABUCO PEAK ALONG THE WAY. THE RUN WILL END AT HWY 74.

Tough choice between this or Truckhaven! This is closer which is good! I've run the Santiago portion of this, but not the northern portion.

Forgot to mention.. this is rain or shine.

I just can't get out of town (house/dog sitting).. so this is why im hitting something really local that wont take 2-3 hours to get too. I don't mind as long as i can get my tires somewhat dirty.

We'd love to see you there Brent.

Very interested as well since I can't get out of town either. I am hoping the :princess: and Scott will go too. I will let you know for sure. Thanks for researching this, I look forward to checking out the northern portion as well.

I forgot to mention as always Tille will be along as well. Dog is my co-pilot. :D

Just got an update from the misus, definitely maybe. She usually shops with her mom on Fri (don't ask, tradition) but as long as we don't get stuck down there it should work out. Looking forward.

By stuck down there, I mean overnight, which would impede meeting up with you in the am. :flipoff2: But thanks for thinking of me. Looks to be a go, even my brother in-law is going to go. :D

Ok, so i have a little information to report on the entrance to the trail for the 25th.

I went and pre-ran the 1st few miles yesterday because i wanted to see where we and how we get into the trail and make sure its still open. Well here's the 3 options. They've kind of made it a little difficult for vehicles (i was on a mtn bike last time) to get in.

1. Up skyline drive bike trail/maint road and through a concrete wall squeeze(this would be make it impossible for a full size to go with us(the 80 barely fit).

2. Pass a security guard (dont know if he'll let us and/or the construction workers may not be working that day)... and through a new phase of homes where we enter the trail via a paved road without any problems.

3. Up and over a curb and around a "road closed" sign and onto the trail.(not a big deal at all and no ones around)

Now once your on the trail your fine. I saw 3-4 rigs yesterday. It's Cleveland National forest. It's getting through the new developement that makes it suck. I don't feel its that big of a deal to cross through for a brief minute to get onto the trailhead. Some people might think its wrong. Now if i was crossing someones farm or dairy or something like that i wouldnt do it. But it's simply around a sign. Im all for treading lightly.

Im leaning towards #3. It's how most people get in. Its like a 10 foot section of dirt to cross and your in.

Anyhoo, if you guys dont want to go cause of this... then I understand. Please fire back any questions you have about it.

Here's a pic of Corona from 1/2 up the mtn yesterday. You can see all the new construction on the bottom of the pic.

what's with the trailhead being cut off. Is this an official forest road or just a shortcut?

good to see you won't run out of gas on this dangerous expedition... :D

Ooohhh! Good one. I think he likes the look, gotta admit it looks pretty damn cool.

How about we try the house developement and if they give us grief, we can look at option 1 or 3. ;)

Sweet, glad to hear your in Mo. Naah its a legit forest road. There used to be a gate there. But then they started building houses around the entrance to the road. Now its in the way and there's no real gate anymore. They probably will install one when the houses are finished.

The fuel cans are up there, cause i live on the 3rd floor.. and im too lazy to carry them all up here right now lol

I like 'The Look' Dave! I hope those things are empty for in town stuff. As E said, you planning a long expedition over the Saddleback range?

They're all empty except two. It's hard, we live in a "luxury apt. home" LOL that has no garage. So... i haul them up 3 floors and out on my balcony.. kinda sucks.. so thats why i just leave them locked on the rig for now.

You still up for the 25th Brent?

Sounds like fun Dave. We'll have to see what I do regarding truck repairs at this point. If I've got the truck, I'm in!
