Okay, got the goodie box today. Centerforce clutch, pilot and T/O bearings and new rear main seal. Hopefully I can get it done this weekend. I have done hundreds if clutch jobs but never a cruiser. Any advice?

The hardest part will be lining up the trans and clutch fork and getting it in the front bearing/bushing. That was on a 70 fj40 so yours may be different. It took me hours get it right:bang:. But I can be a spaz:whoops: when it comes to these type of repairs.
 
:beer::beer::beer:Well, its out. 268,xxx miles of oil, grease, road grime etc... I decided to make it worth it and take the trans to my friend Kevin at Carson Valley Transmission on Monday. He is going to go through it and replace all seals and gaskets. :beer:Not sure what was leaking more, the transfer case or the rear main. Will also be ordering a new oil pan gasket set. I figure while its out, go all the way and be good for the summer. I will try to document the reassembly, the underside of that car was no place for a camera, chiseling through the grime to find bolt heads was no place for me.:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:
 
Okay she's all back together. It only took triple the time and money than originally planned. :censor: but there isn't even a drop in the driveway after 3 days!! Here are some before and after pics as well as some detailed pics of the rear main removed and installed. I did do a little dress-up in addition to the cleaning. There were two particularly difficult parts of this project, the rest was just turning bolts.

Difficulty 1 - The 4 piece oil pan gasket. Get some silicone or yellow gasket sealant (gorilla snot). Stick the two side gasket pieces to the block and stick the two end pieces to the oil pan. Have your oil pan bolts ready and a third hand wouldn't hurt. I also put a good amount of silicone in the corners where the end pieces and the side pieces meet as it seemed like an easy place for oil to get through.

Difficulty 2 - As would be expected, putting the tranny back in is a b!@ch. I don't do this often enough to justify buying a tranny jack but this is the first time I have really considered it. Lining up the shaft while balancing the clutch fork/T/O bearing isn't easy. Because the transmission and transfer case are one unit, it is a very heavy, off balanced chunk of metal to get up there. I did get it with a floor jack by myself but if you can get a tranny jack and some friends, do it.

If anyone has any more questions feel free to hit me up and I will answer to the best of my ability.

Looks good dude and congrats on getting it all back together.
How hard was it to get to the rear main seal? Mine is leaking pretty good and I figure it should be something on the list this summer before the wife decides to end me or the cruiser's lives due to oil on the driveway. Did your buddy give you the tranny/t-case back with oil in it or did you fill yourself? And if so what did you do to fill it?
 
looks really good, like how you painted the pan.. and cleaned the gearbox,


Remember old Toyota's don't burn oil they just leak it... now what are you going to do for rust proofing without the oil sheen underneath.. :D:D:D
